Weilheim clears the way for the next large new building on the Narbonner Ring.

The Chamber of Crafts wants to set up its new vocational training center in an open field next to the vocational school.

City officials are excited.

But the question of a parking space is in the stomach of some.

Weilheim

– Behind the scenes, the major project has been under discussion for a long time: in July 2021, the fact that the Chamber of Crafts for Munich and Upper Bavaria wants to build its vocational training center in Weilheim on a greenfield site was not publicly presented to the parliamentary group and group spokespersons.

"Here a mostly positive trend for the creation of building rights in the fractions became apparent," says the city.

The plans became public in spring 2022 through a report in the local newspaper.

At that time, the Chamber of Crafts confirmed the plans for the new building on land between the new vocational school and the Narbonner Ring leisure center that was previously used for agriculture.

We are talking about a total area of around 35,000 square meters and costs in the high double-digit million euro range.

Green representatives against large areas resealing

The responsible body has meanwhile been able to acquire the necessary plots of land, and the process is now officially under way.

The Chamber of Crafts has now applied for the change in the land use plan to designate a "common use area Vocational Training Center Narbonner Ring".

The city council will decide on this on March 23, and during the preliminary consultation in the building committee last Tuesday, there was a clear majority in favor of the project.

The two Greens representatives in the committee voted against the expulsion.

She wonders whether a new building of this magnitude is "still so necessary" given the lack of young people in the trades, Luise Nowak explained and spoke out against the large resealing.

"With a little good will" the conversions on the current training center area between Münchener Straße and Kerschensteinerstraße are possible, according to the Green City Councilor.

BfW spokeswoman: "The Chamber of Crafts should be clearly supported"

City master builder Katrin Fischer contradicted this: According to the chamber of crafts, the space there was not sufficient, which is why they had rented additional buildings in the Trifthof for a long time.

New technologies also require additional space.

The requirements for modern, high-quality vocational training can no longer be met at the current location.

"The Chamber of Crafts should be clearly supported," emphasized BfW spokeswoman Brigitte Holeczek: The need is clear, the location next to the vocational school "even a plus".

In the development plan process, the city has the opportunity to make structural specifications, Holeczek continues.

But in general: "If we don't make sure that we have good conditions for our craftsmen, we will soon have serious difficulties."

Mayor Markus Loth (BfW) called the project "a super thing": "For Weilheim it's huge that we get a project like this.

We are an educational location, and we have to clearly shout 'here'." It is "clear that ecological construction should be done" and that the specifications of the "Weilheim Charter" should be implemented, the town hall boss continued.

How to solve the parking issue?

The project has "national importance" for Marion Lunz-Schmieder: "We can be happy if it stays in Weilheim." Of course, this new building will also "not work without parking spaces," said the CSU spokeswoman on a topic that Gerd Ratter (ÖDP) had brought to the table.

He suggested that the necessary car parking spaces for the vocational training center "be set up in a parking deck on the vocational school property", including solar modules above it.

In this way, “the great structural sin of the vocational school car park could be made up for”.

However, Mayor Loth considers such a combination of different builders to be “unrealistic”.

In principle, he had nothing against the new vocational training center, said Alfred Honisch (Greens), but for him it was "a clear requirement" that there were no above-ground parking spaces.

With "rigid specifications" in the urban development contract for the construction of an underground car park, however, subsidies would be jeopardized, explained Stadtbaumeisterin Fischer.

A corresponding “mobility concept” has already been announced.

"And we said clearly that we no longer want what happened at the vocational school."
