Special for Walla! - Opinion column by Eran Doron, head of the Ramat Negev Council: "Is the legal reform or revolution worth everything that is happening before our eyes? In my opinion, no."

The great social discord created by the revolution or the legal reform, revealed a much deeper rift whose signs could still be seen in the four tribes speech of the previous president, Reuven Ruby Rivlin in 2015. However, today, it seems that the number

of the tribes has only increased as well as the differences between them.

Now, when there is a huge gap between the supporters of the reform or the legal coup and its opponents, it seems that we are in the midst of the same process that, unfortunately, is disintegrating our society from the inside.

In the current situation, one cannot help but wonder about the question - what else connects us all?

Do we have the same story in common?

How is it possible to create the same broad common camp on the basis of which our beloved country was miraculously established 75 years ago?

We need to find the answers to these questions now.

There is no way or possibility to do this without an in-depth, authentic and thoughtful conversation - also with the other's will, in order to reach the same point of finding broad agreements.

After all, the missile that threatens every point in Israel from the north and the south, which may come from Gaza, Lebanon, Syria or Iran, does not ask to which tribe the person who is hiding in his apartment belongs.

He does not check whether in the building he wants to destroy its residents there are people who support or oppose the reform or the legal coup.

When the external threats are so tangible and challenging, Israeli society must urgently find the cohesion and unifying spirit in coming to reach the age of 75 years.

Is the legal reform or revolution worth everything that is happening before our eyes?

In my opinion, no.

But I cannot turn a blind eye to the many people who support and wish to promote those moves.

Our opinions may be opposite, but our commitment to create a good shared life is exactly the same.

We, the heads of councils in Israel, have expressed our concerns to the president and have emphasized until now the importance of reaching a broad consensus as those who are well aware of the real hardships of the average citizen.

Because in the end, those residents are first and foremost interested in having enough helpers in the kindergartens - and that they receive an adequate salary to be sure that their children are in good hands;

That the trash be removed on time and that basic services can be received by the authority so that life can go on as normal.

In life itself, as it is customary to say, one can find the solutions to the big problems and for this I am proud of the example of the Shizaf settlement which is located in the Ramat Negev Council and recently celebrated its tenth anniversary.

In my opinion, Juzef is an example and a model of how it is possible to behave differently - that is, it is possible to create a shared life even under conditions of disagreement and social difference.

Therefore, I think that with the existing data and according to the opinion that the current situation is intolerable, precisely out of these difficulties it is possible to create an unusual opportunity to return to the basis of the values and vision we all share through a constitution based on the Declaration of Independence.

A constitution that will arrive through real dialogue and will be the starting point for all those tribes;

A constitution that, although it will not be able to produce agreements regarding all the disputes, will constitute a compromise and a "home" for the entire people of Israel, precisely so that we never forget what is written in the Declaration of Independence: "The State of Israel shall be open to Jewish immigration and to the gathering of refugees; focus on the openness of the land מֻשְׁתָּתָה עַל יְסוֹדוֹת הַחֵרוּת, הַצֶּדֶק וְהַשָּׁלוֹם לְאוֹר חֲזוֹנָם שֶׁל נְבִיאֵי יִשְׂרָאֵל; תְּקַיֵּם שִׁוְיוֹן זְכֻיּוֹת חֶבְרָתִי וּמְדִינִי גָּמוּר לְכָל אֶזְרָחֶיהָ בְּלִי הֶבְדֵּל דָּת, גֶּזַע וּמִין; תַּבְטִיחַ חֹפֶשׁ דָּת, מַצְפּוּן, לָשׁוֹן, חִנּוּךְ וְתַרְבּוּת; תִּשְׁמֹר עַל הַמְּקוֹמוֹת הַקְּדוֹשִׁים שֶׁל כָּל הַדָּתוֹת; וְתִהְיֶה נֶאֱמָנָה לְעֶקְרוֹנוֹתֶיהָ of the United Nations Declaration."
