Although Peter Praet has not sat on the executive board of the European Central Bank (ECB) since 2019, interest in his interventions on monetary policy has not waned.

The former Central Bank Chief Economist is a sought-after analyst, commentator and speaker.

met him on the sidelines of the European Investment Bank's EIB Group Forum.

Praet is a bit late.

He comes out of an informal meeting with some fifty chief economists.

DIE WELT.- The persistence of inflation in the euro zone surprised observers.

It is above all core inflation that has accelerated, a sign that price increases are getting tougher.

It seems certain that the ECB will decide on a rate hike at its next meeting.

How many others will follow?
