Poing - The clear-cutting of 87 trees on the Poinger Westring continues to arouse the minds of local residents in particular.

In the municipal council meeting on Thursday evening, residents came to ask questions to the mayor and the municipal council in the public part.

Josef Resch wanted to know where and when replacement plantings are planned.

Mayor Thomas Stark (non-partisan) replied that the landscape architect commissioned by the municipality would draw up a green space plan for the conversion of the west ring.

It is planned that 26 new trees will be planted along the south side, where there were about 30 birch trees until recently.

On the north side, along the allotment garden, 20. In addition, 20 new trees would soon be planted on the field/walking path from the west ring to the beehive (in the direction of Pliening).

The positions are already marked

so strong.

The consortium of property developers and investors (ARGE) at Bergfeld will bear the costs for the replanting and maintenance.

When asked about rumors that the markings had been made to fence off the entire hollow from the infiltration basin to the apiary, the mayor replied that this was not the case.

Only the pool itself, at the beginning of the path, is fenced in for safety reasons.

Poing: Residents speak up in the municipal council

Resident Hans Barnerssoi wanted to know why the municipality of Poing in the Westring had initiated the clearing, even though the municipal council had declared a “climate emergency” in the summer of 2019 (at the request of the SPD parliamentary group).

Stark's answer: "It was agreed to compensate for the clearing with replacement plantings." The administration had recently written in a statement on the replanting: "After the measure has been completed, there will be more trees in Poing than before the conversion measures." Clearing caused some strong criticism from citizens.

As reported, a new footpath and cycle path will be created on the south side of the west ring near the houses, and a cycle path on the north side.

The municipal council unanimously approved this measure at its meeting on July 21, 2022.

With a view of the two new development areas Lerchenwinkel (including high school) and W8 with living space for a total of around 4000 people.

According to a traffic report, this will roughly double car traffic on the Westring and Bergfeldstrasse.

In order to increase bicycle traffic there, the municipal council decided to expand or build new cycle paths in the western ring.

This decision, which resulted in the clearing, was also approved by members of the municipal council who are active on the board of the local group Poing of the BUND Naturschutz.

The has now published a statement on the clear-cutting with the headline "Trees give way to the increasing traffic".

It says: "After weighing up all aspects, the municipal councilors, who are also on the board of our local group, agreed with a heavy heart to a traffic-optimized variant with a negative impact on tree protection."

(By the way: Everything from the region is now also available in our regular Ebersberg newsletter.)

According to the Poinger BUND board, the clear-cutting of the west ring is “a great loss for the biodiversity, the microclimate and the character of the west ring”.

The aim must be "to achieve the fastest and greatest possible restoration of the flora."

In response to further inquiries, Mayor Thomas Stark said that road construction in the west ring would start in July/August.

Before that, the areas would have to be examined by archaeologists.

For this purpose, the cleared areas would be completely removed in the near future.
