Contrary to the basic existential instinct: Netanyahu ignores the dangers of the legal revolution - voila! news

One of the Prime Minister's basic assumptions states that every living creature should recognize danger ahead of time, but it seems that this time the "first to recognize" did not see it coming, and even if he did - he did nothing. When he is called on from all sides to recalculate his course, Netanyahu continues to rush into a constitutional crisis. If he wants, he can still change the course

Netanyahu rejects the compromise outline presented by the president for the legal revolution (Walla system!)

In the last chapter of his autobiographical book "Bibi My Life Story" published last year, Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu wrote: "Every living being must retain the ability to recognize danger ahead of time in order to prepare for it."

This is a familiar biological premise from Netanyahu's lexicon, attributed to his father, Ben Zion, which the prime minister likes to incorporate into his speeches to warn of lurking dangers (Iran) or to congratulate himself on early detection and big decisions (such as the Corona vaccines or the Arab Spring).

But since the writing of the book, it seems that something in Netanyahu's basic existential instinct has eroded: the legal revolution of his sixth government led to the most serious political, social, economic and political crisis in Israel's history, which endangers the foundations of its existence.

The one who in the past claimed for himself the nickname "the first to identify" and prides himself on his ability to predict disasters and developments did not see this coming.

And even after he recognized - he did nothing to neutralize the danger.

Two and a half months have passed since Justice Minister Yariv Levin first presented the legal revolution, and week by week the warnings and warnings of a fratricidal war, an economic collapse, reluctance in the IDF and a host of lurking dangers that could tear the country apart from within and expose it to enemies from the outside are increasing and intensifying. Hundreds of thousands of citizens are shouting in the streets, The heads of the economy, high-tech and senior economists in Israel and the world are horrifying in black, chiefs of staff, heads of Mossad and former heads of the Shin Bet are standing up one after the other to raise a black flag regarding the consequences of the regime changes on Israel's security, in the White House and other capitals conveying sharp messages of concern about the developments, and on The prime minister's desk is waiting for an accumulation of letters, petitions and personal appeals, to stop and recalculate a course.

For 11 weeks, Netanyahu has heard all the dark predictions and prophecies of rage, and until now, has done nothing to prevent them from coming true.

The government did not hold a single regular discussion on the legal revolution, the political-security cabinet did not deal with the dangers it creates for the IDF, the economic concerns were brought up in the budget debates but remained as a footnote. Even if Netanyahu did not foresee the force of the pushback from Levin's reform, from the moment he recognized the danger , like any living being, could and should have defended himself and prepared.

Only under the auspices of the ombudsman's prohibition to engage in the legal revolution because of the indictments, he took his hands off the wheel and handed it over to the Minister of Justice and Chairman of the Constitution Committee Simcha Rothman. And when he already understood the magnitude of the danger and trouble, he revealed that he had lost control. Netanyahu read the alarming signs and the red traffic lights several weeks ago, but every time he suggested or ordered Levin to stop - he responded with an absolute no.

The third time he sent a lifeline.

Also this week, in preparation for the publication of President Herzog's outline, the Prime Minister very much wanted to find an agreed upon formula that would allow the coalition to respond positively, roll out the games of compromise and negotiations with the leaders of the opposition and calm down at least part of the protest.

He sent his close associate Minister Ron Dermer to the President's house, who sat until the wee hours of the night in an effort to reach an understanding on the presidential outline.

Herzog brought together the best legal minds in the country, from all ends of the political and academic spectrum, from the Israel Democracy Institute through the Purpose Institute to the Ecclesiastical Forum;

who managed to reach significant constitutional agreements on a significant majority of the issues, even breaking ground at the level of the ideological research institutes that were involved in the discussions.

But in order to close the last gaps - the control of the committee for selecting judges and the majority needed to invalidate laws - a political coach is required on the part of the architects and emissaries.

The committee for the selection of judges - the most loaded core.

The committee for the selection of judges was and remains the most charged core of the Levin revolution.

The Minister of Justice is not willing to bend to a clear coalition majority for the appointment of judges without a veto, while the recipients of the compromise - whether in the protest, the opposition or the president's house - will not accept the politicization of the committee.

The coalition tried to roll out all kinds of creative temporary solutions, which would allow the Minister of Justice to appoint 2-4 judges without a veto, without changing the permanent composition of the committee, but none of them were accepted.

And yet, despite the gap, Netanyahu wanted to respond positively to the president's outline;

If only for tactical reasons.

He postponed his departure to Berlin on Wednesday and convened an emergency consultation in the Knesset with Shas chairman Aryeh Deri, Dermer, Rothman and Levin who is sitting on his father connected from home on the line.

Levin made it clear, once again, that he would not give up the core of his plan, with a resignation gun in the background that is on the table from time to time if the prime minister stops him.

Netanyahu's office also checked whether the president's house would agree to split the sections concerning the committee for selecting judges and the disqualification of the laws, so that he could still bless the outline as a basis for negotiations.

Here everything exploded.

The president realized that even if Netanyahu wants to compromise, he can't, because Levin and his partners won't allow him.

The goats went out for him.

This was the third time that Herzog extended Netanyahu a lifeline from the crises and dangers of the legal revolution, and did not find a hand extended back.

A few hours later, when the president presented the "People's Blueprint" - he chose a hardened and liberal version of the one that Netanyahu, Levin and Rothman knew and expected.

And the reception of the bibists, accordingly, was sharp and furious;

Complete rejection, combined with ugly attacks on surrendering to the left and replacing the will of the people - and an increased appetite to complete the legislation in the next two weeks in second and third reading, until April 3rd, exactly according to the original hazel.

In the coalition, preparations are being made for unilateral softening of the laws of the revolution, most of which are harsh that Levin and Rothman introduced in advance in order to part with them without rejecting them in the last line, if only as a concession to the compromise demands of Yuli Edelstein and David Bitan.

The collapse of President Herzog's People's Plan is not necessarily a fait accompli either.

In the coalition they rejected and disowned him, but in the opposition they welcomed him and accepted him as a basis for negotiations;

So that at any given moment he can get up for a late resurrection;

If Netanyahu wants or succeeds, to impose on his government.

In the absence of a compromise outline, and without a negotiation or agreement partner, and without the president's blessing, the danger of a constitutional crisis increases if they are rejected by the High Court. The military men who threaten to disintegrate the IDF and infiltrate other bodies in the security system as well.

At this stage, Netanyahu already recognizes all the dangers, but contrary to his own existential motto, he is not yet acting to prevent them.
