Thursday evening, EDF presented
"the evolution"
of its control strategy for its nuclear power plants.
A revised and corrected plan which echoes new cracks discovered at the beginning of March in Penly.
Two types of defect were then detected at Penly, in addition to those related to stress corrosion (SCC), detected at the end of 2021. This time, no less than 320 welds must be checked.
"
90% will be by the end of the year,"
says the group.
The extent of the checks to be carried out is explained by their nature.

They concern welds which were repaired twice during the construction of the reactor: “
A first time to correct a misalignment of the sections of the circuit, a second time to correct a welding defect.
This peculiarity could explain the presence of such a deep stress corrosion crack”,
specifies the Institute for Radiation Protection and Nuclear Safety (IRSN).
EDF detected a 155 mm crack…
