In the first episode of the new "Bergretter" season, fans of Maxi Warwel had to say goodbye.

Now the actress reveals why she left the ZDF series.

Ramsau – After the end of the last "Bergdoktor" season, fans of home series on ZDF still get their money's worth.

Because since March 2nd, the broadcaster based in Mainz has been showing weekly new episodes of "Die Bergretter" - and invites viewers into the idyllic mountain landscape around the village of Ramsau.

In the premiere episode "At any price", however, the audience had to say goodbye to a familiar face with Maxi Warwel (40).

Serial death in the season launch: Maxi Warwel says goodbye to "Die Bergretter"

For six years, Maxi Warwel was an integral part of the "Bergretter" family as chief inspector Jessika Pollath, but her time in the popular ZDF format came to an abrupt end with the start of the 14th season.

During a daring rescue operation on a mountain slope, Simon Plattner's girlfriend (Ferdinand Seebacher, 33) fell down.

The loyal fans of "Die Bergretter" are appalled by this unexpected serial death - to make matters worse, their serial friend said goodbye to Ramsau a week later.

"I'm full of gratitude, but I'm also very, very, very sad," explained Maxi Warwel after the broadcast of her farewell to "Bergretter" on Instagram, "Nevertheless, it was time to move on." Surviving such a cliff fall seems unlikely – Her colleagues in Ramsau are also aware of this - but she doesn't want to close the door completely for her character yet: "And who knows, maybe Jessi will show up again at some point?"

Curious: “Bergretter” darling has the same name as the mountain doctor

In 38 episodes, Andreas Marthaler (Martin Gruber, 52) led the “Bergretter” team until he fell to his death under dramatic circumstances in episode 6 of the sixth season (“Cut off”).

Especially attentive ZDF viewers should have noticed: The former "Bergretter" main actor has a prominent namesake.

The mountain doctor embodied by Hans Sigl (53) in the series of the same name is also called Martin Gruber.
