The state government's volunteer officer regrets that the district no longer wants to test the "FlexHero" platform for volunteers.

Bad Tölz-Wolfratshausen – Eva Gottstein, member of the state parliament and honorary officer of the Bavarian state government, recently visited the district office.

The reason for the flying visit was the use of the FlexHero platform, which the district uses to try to find volunteers and network them with organizations looking for volunteers.

During her visit, Eva Gottstein emphasized the importance and value of volunteering for the cohesion and shaping of civil society.

Through her job as a volunteer officer, she gets to know a lot of impressive volunteer initiatives.

"It is important to support and maintain this commitment," Gottstein emphasized during her visit.

Volunteering today is more project-related than a life's work

She very much welcomed the district's approach of taking new and, in particular, digital ways to recruit volunteers.

Especially with changing social conditions and life plans, volunteering is more important than ever.

The trend of seeing volunteering less as a life's work and much more project-related in different areas is observed throughout Bavaria.

In order to do justice to this, the online platform FlexHero was tested in the district.

It can optimally accompany direct contacts between interested parties and suppliers without interposing a bureaucratic and avoidable mediation level.

Gottstein regretted that the Committee for Social and Cultural Affairs was not giving the project, and thus digitization, more testing time.

"Perhaps the citizens cannot be reached at first, but as with public transport and renewable energies, digitization also needs an opportunity to reach people directly."

Project rejected: Too expensive, little use

The platform has been tested since November 2021, however, the placement of volunteers started rather hesitantly, as the first report in July 2022 showed, 22 volunteers had been placed up to that point.

In December 2022, the majority of the technical committee then rejected a project extension and the associated costs of a good 10,000 euros.

During Gottstein's visit, District Administrator Niedermaier was open to addressing the committee's decision again if necessary.
