Spring is approaching, sunny days too. It's time to put the pool back into service. What are the steps to follow ? Our answers.

The wintering of the swimming pool is coming to an end, with the arrival of spring.

It is therefore time to prepare it for the coming season, in order to enjoy it on sunny days and all summer long.

To discover

  • March: what vegetables and fruits are in season?

Passive wintering: what are the steps to put your swimming pool back into service?

As passive wintering simply consists of stopping the operation of the pool, it necessarily requires more work to put it back into service.

It is also an opportunity to check the general condition of the liner, the bottom of the pool and the walls, looking for cracks.

Also check the main elements.

Start your pool when the water is at 12°C.

If you do not follow this recommendation, you risk seeing algae and bacteria appear.

For swimming pools equipped with a salt chlorinator, the recommended temperature is 15°C.

You must therefore:

  • Prepare the pool

- Remove all protective equipment installed for the winter (cover, floats, gizmos and wintering plugs).

Clean them, dry them and store them carefully until next fall.

- Replace the skimmer baskets, discharge nozzles, pumps, probes, etc.

- Clean the beaches and copings with a jet of water.

- Clean the surroundings of the swimming pool, starting from the edges outwards.

- Roughly clean the pool using a landing net.

- Clean the water line, taking care to use an appropriate product.

- Adjust the water level to 1/3 of the skimmers.

  • Put the technical room back on the road

Check the devices, make sure that there was no damage during the winter.

- Put the pump back into operation.

Loosen it if necessary with a screwdriver, to help it turn properly.

- Wash and descale the filter.

- Set the filtration programming time.

- If you have a heater, a counter-current swimming device or a robot, put these equipment back into service.

- Perform a water shock treatment (chlorine, bromine, active oxygen, etc.).

- Operate the filtration system continuously for 24 to 48 hours.

  • Clean the pool thoroughly

Thoroughly clean the bottom of the pool, the stairs and the walls using a special broom.

Pick up dirt from the pool using a scoop.

This step will also be an opportunity to inspect the general condition of the basin.

Depending on the conditions of use of your robot or your vacuum cleaner, pass it or wait until the water is warmer.

  • Analyze the water

- Check the pH of the water and adjust it if necessary.

It should be between 7.2 and 7.4.

Be sure to make the adjustments when the valve is in the filtration position.

- Depending on the swimming pool, you will also have to check the chlorine: the rate must be between 1 and 1.5 ppm (1 ppm or 1 French degree or 1 mg/l).

- Check the TAC (Complete Alkalimetric Title, alkalinity, i.e. the content of bicarbonates and carbonates): value between 80ppm (8°f or 80mg/l) and 120ppm (12°f or 120mg/l).

If the alkalinity is too low, the pH will be unstable.

- Also check the TH (Hydrotimetric Title which corresponds to the concentration of limestone and magnesium): the rate must be between 10°f and 25°f.

Active wintering: how to restart your swimming pool?

The filtration system having worked all winter and as you have monitored the quality of the water, the restarting operation is faster.

Check the condition of the pool and the equipment as before.

- Clean beaches and copings and the surroundings of the swimming pool.

- Adjust the filtration time according to the water temperature.

- Check, using a suitable strip, that your water is not over-stabilized.

It is recommended to renew 1/3 of the pool water.

- Clean and descale the filter.

- Clean the pool: the bottom, the stairs and the walls, the water line and remove the dirt using a landing net.

- Analyze the water:

  • Check the pH of the water and adjust it if necessary

  • Check chlorine and adjust if necessary

  • Check the TAC and adjust it if necessary

  • Check the TH and adjust it if necessary

- Perform a water shock treatment to eliminate algae and bacteria.

Then let the filtration run for 48 hours.

The pool is ready to welcome children and adults, laughter and games.

Good swim !
