The Consul General in New York, Assaf Zamir, was invited this evening (Sunday) for an inquiry at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs in Jerusalem, against the background of the criticism he leveled last week during an event in New York of the government's plan to weaken the judicial system, according to sources at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Zamir's words were published in Walla!
on Friday.
Zamir expressed concern about the consequences of the government's plan to weaken the justice system on Israeli democracy.
He said these things during an event with hundreds of Jewish donors in New York.

Zamir's words were said at a fundraising event for the "Ano" museum, which took place in New York last week.
Zamir said that in the last 18 months, since he took office, he explained the positions of the Israeli government in New York.
He noted that sometimes he said things he agreed with and sometimes he said things he did not agree with, as any diplomat does.
But now, according to him, the situation has changed: "Sometimes it's easier and sometimes it's harder, but that's no longer the case in recent weeks. I'm deeply concerned about the direction the country is going right now... if we want to have a national home and for it to be everyone's home - He must be democratic," Zamir said.
Zamir, appointed to his position by former Foreign Minister Yair Lapid as a political appointee, is the first incumbent diplomat to publicly criticize the government's plan to weaken the justice system.
