Parisians overwhelm the policy of Anne Hidalgo, Rachida Dati first opponent

2023-03-19T19:14:20.304Z

SURVEY - An Ifop-Fiducial survey for Le Figaro and Sud Radio reveals the dissatisfaction of the inhabitants against their mayor. Rachida Dati, ahead of Gabriel Attal, is the first opponent.

"

Anne Hidalgo

had promised to double the cleanliness budget, and Parisians can see that Paris is getting dirtier and dirtier!"

, denounced Rachida Dati, last Monday, on the eighth day of the garbage collectors' strike.

“It is Anne Hidalgo who is on strike: she does nothing!”

, castigated in turn the Minister Delegate for Transport, Clément Beaune… His political opponents do not spare him.

And the Parisians either.

Three years before the 2026 municipal election, an exclusive Ifop-Fiducial survey for

Le Figaro

and Sud Radio, carried out mid-term, reveals the general dissatisfaction of the inhabitants of the capital.

Because if, among them, 77% are satisfied with living in Paris,

“it is a result in sharp decline, 11 points less than in 2018”

, indicates Frédéric Dabi, director general opinion of the Ifop polling institute. .

The trend is even more striking when we compare the current municipal climate to that of 2011, during the mid-term of socialist Bertrand Delanoë: 41% of respondents were then "very satisfied" with their life in Paris, against only 26% today. today.

Another element of alert for the municipal majority: discontent is spreading to the districts governed by the left.

About 30% of the inhabitants of the center of Paris, but also of the 18th, 19th and 20th arrondissements, declare themselves dissatisfied with their daily life in the capital.

"The perception that Parisians have of their city reflects a feeling of decline in the capital"

, continues Frédéric Dabi.

In 2011, 50% of respondents found that Paris was evolving “rather for the better”… compared to 19% today.

The share of those believing that it is evolving “rather badly” amounts to 59%, against 36% under Delanoë.

“It is spectacular to note that this feeling is for the first time majority on the left (52%)”

, specifies Frédéric Dabi.

Thus, according to the inhabitants of the City of Light, the Paris of Amélie Poulain is nothing more than a mirage.

Only a good third think that the city has improved.

Similarly, 68% of Parisians consider the results of the fight against pollution and climate change to be negative, ie 11 points less than under the previous mandate of the socialist mayor.

"It was however one of the positively recognized fundamentals of Anne Hidalgo's balance sheet, during her first term"

, comments Frédéric Dabi.

"In some areas, the dissatisfaction is such that the left-right divide has narrowed very sharply."

On the issue of security, 31% of left-wing sympathizers consider the balance to be positive (against 25% for right-wing sympathizers).

"The left-right divide, with differences of around twenty points observed in past surveys, seems to have lived

," says Frédéric Dabi.

"The same goes for cleanliness: Parisians on the right and on the left are only 17% to find the balance sheet positive."

More generally, only 38% find the work carried out by the municipality "good" or "excellent", i.e. 8 points less than at mid-term in March 2018. "Here, too,

the left-right divide is is largely attenuated: there are only 5 points of difference between the judgment of Parisians living in a left-wing arrondissement compared to those on the right.

A major fact, one out of two left-wing sympathizers considers the results to be "mediocre" or "bad".

"Anne Hidalgo's electoral base is affected"

, analyzes Frédéric Dabi.

No wonder, then, that the image of the unfortunate ex-candidate for president is itself strongly affected: Anne Hidalgo's satisfaction rating is 32%.

It was 52% in 2016 and 42% in 2018.

“Is this his failure in the presidential election?

Is it the vivacity of the "bashing" against him, exacerbated during the garbage collectors' strike?

His stubbornness to enforce his project?

In any case, the fall is very strong”

, deciphers Frédéric Dabi.

And if Anne Hidalgo remains in the majority with her electorate in March 2020 (65%), the fact remains that 35% of them say they are dissatisfied.

"It is rare for an elected official, three years after his election, to lose a good third of his base."

The question of alternatives therefore arises.

If, among the potential candidates, none reaches the majority, it is Rachida Dati who holds the rope: 45% of those polled consider that the mayor of the 7th arrondissement would make a good mayor of Paris.

“This is the first time since Jacques Chirac that a right-wing candidate appears so legitimate three years before the ballot

,” recalls Frédéric Dabi.

"She makes everyone agree: without predicting what the 2026 election will be, we can say that an alternative is emerging in the figure of Rachida Dati."

In

Figaro

, the mayor of the 7th arrondissement says:

“Since 2020, my only objective has been to save Paris.

I have never varied according to the polls.

Criticizing the

“inaction”

of the municipal majority, which

“led to chaos in the public space”

, the former Keeper of the Seals believes that Anne Hidalgo

“has already deserted”

.

Rachida Dati also ensures that

“the desire to change is the majority in Paris”

:

“It will strengthen my dynamics.

We will win."

Promising a “clean”

,

“safe”

Paris

and

“which makes life easier for families”

, the leader of the Parisian right continues:

“I ask Parisians to hold on, to stop fleeing Paris, because in 2026 that will change.”

Among the candidates who would make "a good mayor of Paris", according to those polled, comes second in the budget minister, Gabriel Attal (40%), followed by the ecologist Yannick Jadot (34%).

“Paris has always attracted a lot of appetites

, comments Rachida Dati.

But experience has shown that a last-minute parachute drop is often slippery.”

As for the figures on the left, in the event that Anne Hidalgo does not represent herself, they are struggling to emerge: 23% believe that the deputy mayors of Paris, Emmanuel Grégoire and David Belliard, would make good mayors.

"Anne Hidalgo's first deputy, Emmanuel Grégoire, must fight to increase his notoriety"

, continues Frédéric Dabi.

“Even if, in 2012, Anne Hidalgo was not yet known to all Parisians, she was nevertheless positioned as a possible and natural successor on the left.”
