At the request of bathers and citizens in general, the municipal administration of Trieste has ordered the early reopening of the La Lanterna bathing establishment, better known as 'Pedocin', the only beach in Europe where men and women are divided by a wall.
It is a legacy from the end of the 19th century when social customs were decidedly different and which over time has become a jealously perpetrated tradition among the people of Trieste.
Therefore, thanks to the climate change and therefore the more Mediterranean temperatures than usual, the Pedocin reopened on 12 March although with reduced hours compared to the summer, i.e. from 9 to 17. From 21 May the opening hours will be 8-18:30 up to the maximum extension, in summer.
And as always, the women's area is particularly crowded compared to the men's.
