Direct: The Constitution Committee discusses the legal revolution
The Chairman of the Constitutional Committee, MK Simcha Rothman, said today (Sunday) that he proposes to change the wording of the law of the legal revolution regarding the change in the composition of the committee for the selection of judges, so that the committee will include three serving supreme judges, and not retired judges who will be chosen with the consent of the president.
"I think the right thing is to respond to criticism," Rothman said.
According to Rothman's new proposal, which also guarantees the coalition a majority in the committee, in hearings on lower courts the panel of judges will have three presidents: the supreme, district and peace - so the panel of judges loses the veto.
At the beginning of the committee, Rothman said that "the wording of the legislation will change later, this is a natural process of legislation".
MK Karin Elharer said: "Perhaps it is worth referring to all the people who know a thing or two about its security and economic nature.

During the debate, an uproar broke out after the Constitutional Committee's ombudsman, Gore Blei, said that "in Israel there is no federal regime, there is no longer an oversight mechanism, therefore giving power to the coalition in the committee for selecting judges weakens the main brake on the separation of powers - the court." In response, Rothman said: This is the official position, is this something new?" Tonight, the heads of the coalition will gather for the weekly meeting, during which they are expected to discuss changes around the main sections of the reform, including the change in the composition of the committee for the selection of judges. At the meeting, it will also be decided whether, beyond this change, additional sections of the legal plan will be promoted later in the session The current session of the Knesset, i.e. in the next two weeks - or only in the next session. Justice Minister Yariv Levin, who last week sat on seven following the death of his father, is expected to participate in the session.
