Special for Walla! - Ran Konik, Mayor of Givatayim: "The story here is from long ago, not only the reform, neither yes or no Bibi. The State of Israel fell decades ago

When I was elected to "govern" in Givatayim, I was pressured by some of my supporters who took the stormy elections hard, to take advantage of my power and take revenge on all the bodies and opponents who tried to eliminate me and my good name.

The truth is, the temptation was great.

You have the power to pass any decision in the city council, cut budgets and close activities, absolute control, pleasure.

I refused because this is not governance in my eyes, but vindictiveness and taking advantage of power to settle accounts with the losers.

Happily, I chose then the side I want to be on as an elected official and I chose this side even now, a side of unity and understanding because the truth is not only on one side.

As someone who frequently meets with bereaved families and Holocaust survivors, I know of no other possibility and there is none, this is our duty to the millions of Jews who were destroyed because they had no state and to the tens of thousands of families of the martyrs and wounded of Israel's systems and hostilities.

The story here dates back not only to the reform, but also to yes or no Bibi.

The State of Israel fell ill decades ago, the symptoms were known but we repressed, we treated with paracetamol instead of analyzing, we saw the deterioration of the education system, the disconnection from authority and responsibility, from culture and tradition, from discipline and enforcement.

We fell into the race for money and publicity and it seeped into our children, we saw the abandonment of all manual professions and nursing to foreign workers and Arab laborers and we did not stop it, the process of Americanization and the corrupting and shallow reality show, the madness of traveling abroad and shopping, and we told ourselves that the crisis of sectarianism is over, that there are no differences between Tel Spring for the rest of the country and that there is a real ideological debate here about left and right, only now, everything is floating and as unfortunately happens with this type of disease, the metastases have spread and threaten to reach the brain (the army). If they reach, it is the beginning of the end. Those who disdain and do not believe that there is a civil war and blood in the streets

,

can to happen, to catch a conversation with one of the survivors of the holocaust who are still among us, they too were in complete shock and did not believe in their wildest dreams that their neighbors, their best friends, the children they studied and played with in the street, would one day "turn over" on them, lie on them, spit on them, slaughter and burn them them, it happened only 80 years ago.

In a generation where there are no leaders, and not even one Ovadia Yosef, in a situation where everything is exploding in our faces, when hundreds of thousands take to the streets, when the discourse is so violent and the institution of the presidency can hardly be counted, only we, the people, will determine where Israel is headed, the "governors" will not bring The salvation, from both sides.

If we want to, we will stop the speeding train and happily sing "The lost, beautiful and forgotten Land of Israel, and it is as if she reached out her hand, to give and not to take" and if we don't want to, we will sadly sing "Oh my homeland, you are going away".

Right now we are with "if it's good and if it's bad, there's no going back," and that's bad.
