Would you like to go on a trip by bike?

There are numerous great routes in Germany.

The most popular revealed an analysis.

Flexible, environmentally friendly and inexpensive: cycling as a form of travel is very popular in Germany.

Almost two-thirds of people use their bikes for excursions and trips, as the current cycle tour analysis by the ADFC (Der Allgemeine Deutsche Fahrrad-Club e. V.) shows.

"The numbers speak for themselves: 38 million people in Germany went on at least one day trip by bike in 2022," says ADFC Tourism Director Christian Tänzler.

And there is also an upward trend for trips lasting several days: while 3.9 million people went on longer trips by bike in 2021, by 2022 there were already 4.6 million.

The numbers have thus returned to the pre-corona level.

As in the previous year, the Weser cycle path is the most popular long-distance cycle path in Germany.

It runs around 520 kilometers from the source of the Weser near Hann.

Münden to Cuxhaven on the North Sea.

On the way, cyclists experience a wide variety of landscapes - including the Weserbergland, the Mittelweser, the Wesermarsch, the Teufelsmoor cultural land and the Cuxland.

There are also stops in the Hanseatic city of Bremen and near Bremerhaven.

The good thing about the Weser Cycle Path is that it only has a few inclines and is therefore one of the easier cycle paths in Germany - perfect for getting started with cycling.

Three popular cycle paths lead through Bavaria

Some of the most popular cycle paths in Germany also run through Bavaria: The Danube Cycle Path runs from Donaueschingen to the Danube Delta in Romania.

There are numerous Bavarian cities on the route, such as Donauwörth, Kelheim, Regensburg, Straubing and Passau, so there are plenty of opportunities to stop off and do some sightseeing.

    Or how about the MainRadweg?

Here your path leads you through Franconian Switzerland, the Obermain-Jura and the Steigerwald.

If you fancy a city trip, you can stop in Bayreuth, Kulmbach or Bamberg.

In southern Bavaria, on the other hand, a part of the Bodensee-Königssee cycle path awaits you, which leads through beautiful mountain landscapes and idyllic mountain lakes.

Which region is the most popular among cyclists?

Not only the cycle paths themselves, but also regions as a whole have an appeal to cycle tourists.

The Allgäu has gained enormous popularity as a cycling region, as the ADFC analysis has shown.

Compared to the previous year, it has moved up six places and is now in third place among the most traveled regions.

But cyclists like it best at Lake Constance, which was able to get first place and where the popular Lake Constance cycle path is also located.
