The art tower in the Schwankl-Eck in the town of Wolfratshausen has a future: Hans-Werner Kuhlmann, Hamid Cordan and John Schille are continuing the project on the Obermarkt.

Wolfratshausen – The art tower is dead, long live the art tower: This is the goal pursued by Hans-Werner Kuhlmann, until summer 2021 chairman of the association Lebendige Altstadt Wolfratshausen (LAW).

As reported, the Kulturverein Isar-Loisach (KIL) had to terminate the rental contract for the rooms at Schwankl-Eck in the old town, which had been running since August 2020, the art tower on Obermarkt has been deserted since last weekend.

“Write: It continues in the art tower.

exclamation point!”

No, that shouldn't have been it, says Kuhlmann.

The 79-year-old is a man of conviction.

Among other things, Kuhlmann set up the first art mile in 2009 - this year it is being held for the tenth time - and he initiated the Wolfratshausen "Walk of Fame" in front of the Loisachhalle.

With the owner of the prominent property at Schwankl-Eckl, John Schille (59), and the Wolfratshausen artist and gallery owner Hamid Cordan (69), Kuhlmann has found two brothers in spirit.

The trio has developed a concept for how the art tower can continue to be operated.

The gentlemen are already inviting you to an exhibition on April 20th - they won't reveal more yet.

This is supposed to be a real gallery.

This is no fun here.

Hamid Cordan, artist and gallery owner

"I was horrified," says Kuhlmann in an interview with our newspaper when he found out about the end of the art tower.

It is "great" what the KIL has done, it has always been important to him to "enliven the city".

The fact that the cultural association had to give up for financial reasons "is very unfortunate," emphasizes the 79-year-old.

In his own words, together with Schille and Cordan he has succeeded in creating an economic basis that will last for at least six months.

"This is supposed to be a real gallery" in which "high-quality art" is presented, emphasizes Cordan.

"It's no fun here." Art is not "absolutely necessary," says the native of North Macedonia.

"But without art, the soul of a city is destroyed." He has already curated exhibitions in London and Munich and has also set himself noble goals for the Kunstturm.

"Everyone in Munich dreams of such an exposed exhibition location as the Schwankl-Eck in the heart of Loisachstadt".

Kunstturm: The operator trio is not yet thinking about founding an association

All in all, the trio has a widespread network.

"Internationally renowned artists" have already shown great interest in exhibiting their works in the art tower.

In this context, Cordan attaches importance to the statement that the ambitious project is not an end in itself.

A central meeting point for artists and art lovers in the rafting town "underlines the many positive sides that Wolfratshausen has".

To date, it has been “a purely private initiative,” explain Kuhlmann, Cordan and Schille.

Founding an association or another form of sponsorship – "we're not thinking about that yet".

The fact is: the Kulturverein Isar-Loisach is no longer the operator of the Kunstturm.

"But we have a very good relationship," says Kuhlmann.

Should the KIL need premises for a cultural event - "our door is always open", emphasizes Cordan.

The trio does not want to talk about a rescue attempt or a resuscitation.

“Write”, says Kuhlmann with a smile, “it goes on in the art tower.

Exclamation mark!” (cce)
