If in the past older people retired immediately at retirement age, today more and more senior citizens choose to continue working even in old age.

The 60-year-olds of today are not the 60-year-olds of yesteryear, and many of the senior citizens are essential, full of motivation, with a lot of professional experience and the ability to contribute a lot to the employment market.

However, finding a job in old age is not always easy, especially after a long career in the same field.

The senior citizens are often required to reinvent themselves and adapt to changes.

Out of the desire to raise awareness of the importance of employing senior citizens and help them integrate into the employment market, the Lottery and the Walla Group!

They launched a unique project a few months ago.

As part of the project, employers who were looking for quality employees signed up for the program and offered jobs to those 60 and older.

The jobs were published on the website Walla!

And senior citizens looking for work could send their resumes.

The "Veterans at Work" program of the Ministry of Social Equality helped the employers and job seekers who applied to the project, the senior citizens received assistance in writing employment contracts, preparing for a job interview and training for the world of work, in order for them to find the job that suits their needs.

One of the job seekers who managed to find a job through the project and accompanied by "working veterans" is David Kroitoru.

Two years ago, David (66 years old from Petach Tikva, divorced, father of three children and grandfather of three grandchildren), found himself out of work after a 42-year career at the "El Al" airline company: "My last position was a department manager in the engineering department, and due to the corona virus El Al ran into financial difficulties and in order to meet its obligations it reached an agreement with the state to cut manpower. 2,000 employees were fired from the company and I was also forced to take early retirement involuntarily."

How did you feel without a job?

"It was a very difficult time. I felt a lack of self-worth and a lack of vitality. I was depressed and faced financial difficulties and insomnia. Three months later I found a job in a garage as a transporter, but the conditions were very far from what I received at El Al. I worked in the garage for a year and four months. The job It helped me narrow the economic gaps, but I didn't feel satisfied with it. I had the feeling that the technological world was running away from me and that I was out of frame."

Everything changed when David was accidentally exposed to advertising through the Walla website!

of the Ministry of Social Equality's "Veterans at Work" program: "I joined, filled out the forms, and within two days an amazing girl named Aya from the Veterans at Work program contacted me. I was skeptical at first, but she gave me the feeling that I have value and accompanied me through the process of finding a job. She She bridged the gap between my resume and work in another interface. She led me in the dark and accompanied me all the way. I went through a process of a month and a half that included a personal interview until I was accepted for the position of water damage technical clerk at the Migdal insurance company."

How does it feel to find a new job?

"Migdal is seen as a company of young people. Even though I was older than the other candidates for the job, the hiring managers recognized something in me that I didn't even know existed in me. Migdal accepted me despite my advanced age. I am very happy and my children feel the vitality in me. I am full of motivation and tremendous desire to return to the prime. Programs like veterans at work give an opportunity to older people, who bring with them a lot of knowledge and experience."

Eli Meirovich, 69 years old from Netanya, divorced, father of three children and grandfather of eight grandchildren), also received personal support from the "Veterans at Work" program until he found a new job: "For 15 years I have been running a business marketing cosmetics equipment. Following the corona virus and the great competition in the field, the business moved crisis and I needed additional income to survive. I came to the website of veterans at work and sent a resume. The coordinator of the program asked me what I would like to do and I received an offer to work as a housing guide at Beit Eckstein. I was invited to a job interview and a month ago I was accepted for a job, in which I care for and assist people with disabilities." .

How do you feel about your new job?

"I am a very spiritual person and I love people, especially the young people who are dealing with disabilities. Although the salary is not high, I took on the care of the tenants out of a sense of mission. I talk to them, help them with cooking and cleaning and take care of the maintenance of their house. I enjoy every day that I work and help To them and they love me very much and see me as a father figure. Veterans at work do an amazing job. The representatives of the program call me every day and are interested in my health and how I am doing at work. They never stop supporting and helping. The work allows the senior citizens to live with dignity."

Simcha (pseudonym. The full name is kept in the system), 67 years old, also managed to find a new job with the help of the project of the Walla group!

And the raffle and escort factory of the "Veterans in the Job" program: "Before retirement, I taught animation, television and communication in the southern region for nine years. After that, I founded a women's clothing store and owned it for almost a decade until I went bankrupt. My last job before I retired was As a sales representative for a medical services center. I retired because I wanted to rest and I thought I could get by on the pension. But after I was retired I needed supplemental income."

How did work veterans help you find a job?

"I was looking for a job without physical effort and one where I could express my skills and qualifications. I reached out to veterans at work and they guided me through the process of finding a job at an ICT company. The work is challenging because it requires a lot of learning, but I am improving every day. I work part-time and the work is comfortable for me Very much. I think it is very worthwhile to hire senior citizens because they have experience, a high work ethic, they provide good service and give wholeheartedly."

"As chairman of the Lottery, I placed assistance to the elderly population as a central goal of the Lottery in the public arena," said CPA Avigdor Itzhaki, Chairman of the Lottery, on the subject. We entered, together with our partner in the local and regional government, into the fields of welfare and operation, placing emphasis on constantly improving the quality of life of all senior citizens in Israel, and not only through the construction of buildings.

The projects in the field of employment integration constitute a central pillar of the activity.

This is a move in which everyone benefits: the employers who will gain quality, experienced and highly motivated personnel to contribute and the senior citizens who will be able to continue working after retirement age and take on a significant and valuable role for the advancement of companies and the entire Israeli economy."

Yiffit Bar, director of "Veterans at Work" at the Ministry of Social Equality, spoke about the program project: "Veterans at Work works with the goal of bringing about a change in the social perception in the employment market towards senior citizens and creating equal opportunities for them to integrate into the labor market. The purpose of the program is to integrate citizens aged 60 and over who wish to integrate in the salaried employment market, while removing the barriers that exist today. The program is an empowering platform both for senior citizens who see themselves as an essential and inseparable part of society and wish to continue to be a significant factor in the growth of the economy, and for employers who wish to benefit from the personal and professional skills and abilities of those with experience and integrate them into the organization, and from This is how to act with a sense of mission and create occupational diversity for all its virtues."
