Matías Suárez forgot about that damn knee for a while and returned to play to the joy of River and its people

2023-03-20T09:39:23.324Z

He had not done so since December 22, in the friendly debut of Demichelis as DT, against Unión La Calera in San Luis. He officially did not do it since October 23.

And one night

Matías Suárez

returned .

The Cordovan striker had action at the end of River's victory over Sarmiento in Junín.

He came on for Ignacio Fernández (he left with a problem) 38 minutes into the second half and he did not go unnoticed.

He participated in the game and even had a chance to convert.

“I still lack confidence, but I feel better every day.

I want to thank all my teammates, the coaching staff, the people and my family, who are supporting me.

Hopefully I can answer.

I hope to help the team.

I owe a lot to this club

," said Suárez, emotional, after the game.

The man from Cordoba

had not played since December 22

, in Demichelis' friendly debut as coach, against Unión La Calera in San Luis, in which he played for 45 minutes.

And he officially hadn't done it since October 23, in the 2-1 victory over Racing in Avellaneda, for the last date of the 2022 Professional League. In that game, he played 23 minutes.

Suárez began training normally three weeks ago along with the rest of the squad and

he was eager

to play again and feel useful for the team again.

It is that he had barely played 45 minutes since Demichelis arrived, and in a friendly.

Later, the right knee played a trick on him again.

And again he began a recovery process during the preseason.

The synovitis reappeared with force, to the point that, at one point in the summer,

the future of the Cordovan striker was uncertain

.

And although, despite the rumors that circulated, he never thought of retiring or leaving River, he was very concerned about the situation.

However, he stuck to it again and worked together with the kinesiologists and physical trainers of the campus to return.

And the return took place this Sunday night in Junín.

Suárez's problems with that damn right knee come from drag.

“The first problem that Matías had in his right knee was an ossification in the patellar tendon, that is, he had an overbone and it caused him a lot of inflammation and pain.

He came from Belgium to Córdoba to undergo surgery in 2012. And that surgery improved his situation and he did not have any more problems for that matter.

But a year later he suffered a torn cruciate ligament in that knee

, ”José María Luna, the Belgrano doctor who operated on him, had told Clarín.

And he added:

“I traveled at that time to participate in the surgery at his request.

He underwent conventional surgery on his cruciate ligaments, a common injury for high-performance soccer players.

And in the two and a half years that he was in Belgrano since his return, he had no more problems with his knee.

He was able to play easy .

"

At River, where he arrived at the beginning of 2019, he also continued to play quietly for two years.

Until in April 2021 the problems returned in that right knee that had him mistreated and that took him to the operating room again in the first days of October of that year.

Last year he returned and although he could not complete 90 minutes, every time he had to enter the second half, he was influential for the team, be it with goals, assists or outstanding performances.

But, when it seemed that the knee problems were behind us, at the beginning of this year, the pain recurred again.

Now, Suárez hopes to leave them behind.

And he will feel full again.
