The United Kingdom announced on Monday March 20 financial sanctions against officials in Iran of the Revolutionary Guard Corps, the ideological army of the Islamic Republic, including two commanders accused of gross human rights violations.

The IRGC (Revolutionary Guard Corps), the branch of the Iranian Armed Forces responsible for Iran's internal and external security, has been at the forefront of cracking down on protests in Iran in which more than 500 people were killed and tens of thousands imprisoned
,” the UK Foreign Office wrote in a statement.
We will continue to stand with the Iranian people.

These new sanctions target five administrators of the foundation that manages the IRGC's investments in the Iranian economy, as well as two commanders of this Corps.

These sanctions follow a series of measures taken against Iranian leaders by the United Kingdom, the European Union and the United States in response to the violent crackdown on protests in the country.
