The national government declared the
matches of the Argentine National Team as "sporting events of relevant interest"
to broadcast them on Public TV, without having obtained the rights.
The announcement comes before the first friendlies of Lionel Scaloni's team after winning the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
Through resolution 228/2023 published this Monday in the Official Gazette, which bears the signature of the Chief of Staff, Agustín Rossi, it is provided that "sports associations and/or holders of television broadcast rights for football matches where the Argentine National Team participates, organized by the International Federation of Associated Football, the South American Football Confederation or the International Olympic Committee, must market those rights in such a way as to guarantee the live transmission
of said matches
throughout the national territory." .
The transmission rights of the matches of the Argentine national team are in the hands of the TyC Sports signal and -according to Rossi- the Government negotiated to be able to "buy the rights" to transmit them through Public TV, without reaching an agreement.
Through social networks, the official explained that the decision aims to guarantee
"the right of universal access to the contents of the parties"
and warns that "if the company does not comply, the penalties determined by the proceedings may be applied, which They can go so far as to be excluded from the register as companies providing audiovisual services".
For this reason, he appealed to this untimely decision with the argument of "the importance acquired by the ARGENTINE MEN'S FOOTBALL TEAM of the WORLD CHAMPIONSHIP in the 'FIFA World Cup QATAR 2022'", which was stated in "on December 20, 2022 with approximately FIVE MILLION (5,000,000) people in the streets throughout the country", along with "the virtual lines to purchase tickets for the friendly matches to be held during the month of March in our country ".
The National Communications Entity (ENACOM), in charge of Claudio Ambrosini, will be in charge of determining the sports events of general interest for their television broadcast, in the absence of the Federal Council of Audiovisual Communication, established in the Law of Audiovisual Communication Services .
The annex to the official resolution details that the friendlies on March 23 and 28 against Panama and Curacao, and "all national and international friendly matches played by the Senior Men's Soccer Team during the year 2023" will be broadcast by Public Television.
