It is a State Department report on human rights around the world. They also warn about a 'politicized' judiciary.

In an annual report on human rights in the world, the United States denounced on Monday the

"serious problems with the independence of the judiciary" and the "serious government corruption"

in Argentina.

The State Department released the report called

2022 Human Rights Report,

 a summary that annually evaluates the particular situation of human rights in each country and highlights certain particular issues to pay attention to.

In the case of Argentina, the Joe Biden government warned on several issues: “Important human rights issues included credible reports of: unlawful and arbitrary killings, including extrajudicial killings;

torture or cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment or punishment by federal and provincial officials;

Harsh and life-threatening prison conditions.”

gAnd the State Department ended the list with two other issues: “

Serious problems with the independence of the judiciary and serious government corruption”.

It noted that "the government

took limited steps to identify, investigate, prosecute, and punish

officials who committed human rights abuses or participated in acts of corruption."

In the chapter titled “Denial of a Fair Public Trial,” the report notes that in Argentina “the law provides for an independent judiciary, but government officials at all levels do not always respect judicial independence and impartiality

.

According to national NGOs, the judges of some federal and provincial criminal courts were sometimes subjected to political manipulation”.

The report notes that overall, the judiciary generally enforced the right to "a fair and public trial."

However, it warns against "prolonged delays, procedural bottlenecks, long gaps in the appointment of permanent judges, inadequate administrative support and inefficiency hampered the judicial system."

Also about "the broad discretion of judges over investigations and how conducting investigations contributed to the public perception that

many judicial decisions were arbitrary."

In the chapter on government corruption and transparency, the United States points out that “the law establishes criminal sanctions for the corruption of officials, but the government did not implement the law effectively.

There were numerous reports of government corruption during the year.

Weak institutions and an often ineffective and politicized judicial system undermine systematic attempts to curb corruption.

And he pointed out that "several investigations related to corruption against high-ranking political figures and former political personalities, including Vice President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner, were ongoing until September", which is when the report closed, that is, it did not take into account the sentence handed down against the former president in December for the Roads case.
