Aeroparque: after the complaints, there are fewer traffic jams and the works on the Costanera speed up

2023-03-21T09:58:03.695Z

They added signage, transit agents and places for passenger pick-up and drop-off. What are the deadlines for the work?

With fences arranged by color, more signage and traffic agents: this is how the Jorge Newbery Airport is these days, where a month ago chaos reigned after the reduction of lanes in its docks due to works.

Today the complications continue, but with

less traffic jam and more information.

And a new fence was installed that allows students to learn how to get in and out of the airport by car.

After a note from

Clarín

about user complaints, the necessary City Transit agents arrived in the area.

Against the construction fence on Costanera Avenue, on the outside, were those low plastic fences called New Jersey, which here create a temporary

pedestrian walkway

parallel to the airport.

Next door, the first vehicular lane freed up was used for

car parking.

, with a limit of three minutes permanence.

Behind these fences

, new internal roads are being built,

the airport streets that give access to the

passenger pick-up and drop-off docks.

They are expected to be ready in

July.

It is one of the works of the

Nuevo Borde Costero Aeroparque Jorge Newbery

project, which in its current stage includes the redefinition of Costanera avenue, the reidentification of the terminals with letters and colors, and the creation of two dry plazas (one of 2,800 square meters and another of 3,100) to sit down, rest or buy food.

After the complaints of passengers and drivers, at Aeroparque they added signage and speed up the work on the Costanera.

Everything is part of the Aeroparque modernization

plans

, coordinated between Aeropuertos Argentina 2000, the Airport Regulatory Body (Orsna) and the

National Ministry of Transportation.

In the three weeks that have passed since the publication of the note, the work added

signage

, with signs on the fence that indicate not only the sectors but also how long it takes on foot to reach them.

In addition, the gray fences were replaced by colored ones, which indicate which terminal it is.

With this fence, the provisional version of the new vehicle regulation was set up, which makes it possible to learn from now on

what the new way of entering and exiting by car is like.

From north to south, the first section of the fence is

orange

because that is the color assigned to Terminal A for International Arrivals.

It is followed by

purple

for Terminal B for Departures (domestic and international) and

green

for Terminal C for National Arrivals.

Light blue indicates parking lots.

To get an idea of the dimensions, it must be taken into account that Terminal A represents 170 linear meters of cordon;

the B, 180;

and the C, 450.

After the complaints of passengers and drivers, at Aeroparque they added signage and speed up the work on the Costanera.

In a corner of the purple fence of Terminal B is the

provisional stop for buses 33 and 45.

To build the final one -much wider- two trees will have to be removed, so AA2000 will have to plant 30 trees to compensate.

There are also two passenger meeting points near that terminal.

And three stop points in C: remises go to C1, taxis to C2 and cars ordered by applications are expected in C3.

In the coming months, gates will be installed

to indicate segregated lanes:

for example, two for taxis and one for remises;

or one for the Río parking lot, another for Terminal C and two more for passenger drop-off from B. In front of the South parking lot, 12 spaces will be installed for contingent buses and transfer companies such as Manuel Tienda León.

With this new organization, there is more order and greater agility in transit than three weeks ago.

All in all, circulation near the entrances will remain difficult at least until the end of April, when the restriction of between

two and three lanes that are currently under construction is lifted.

Taxis, the only ones allowed in vehicular access until next month, are gradually entering the national arrivals dock.

"Every day they tell me to stop at a different place,"

says Juan Ignacio (43), a Cabify driver who often comes to Aeroparque.

"There are changes in circulation because the work itself is advancing," they explain from AA2000.

How to get in and out

Both the income and the expenses in the different terminals are made independently.

That is why they do not interfere with each other and only the entry and exit movements on the avenue should be regulated, which will be

signalized.

“There is a circuit that supplies the International Arrivals Terminal and another that supplies the National Arrivals Terminal.

On the other hand, due to the geometry of Costanera avenue and the terminal project, access to Partidas is carried out with support on the two previous circuits”, reports a spokesperson for AA2000.

The project includes left

-turn docks

for those arriving by car from the south (from the center) and wanting to access the airport.

Also others for drivers who have to go to the South or Rio parking lot from the opposite side of the avenue.

The comprehensive modernization of Aeroparque started in 2018 with the previous government and continued the following year with the current one.

The construction phase began last year with the

renovation and expansion of the runway

, improvements in the International Terminal and the construction of the Río parking lot on the other side of Costanera avenue.

Except for the stoppage of the pandemic, Aeroparque has been continuously increasing its number of flights, including regional, cabotage and part of those that left El Palomar.

Last year it totaled

12.9 million passengers, 600,000 more than the last year before the pandemic.

It is expected that this year it will reach 15.5 million.

Hence the importance of these works to increase the capacity of the terminal.
