He had bad news to announce.

Freising -

Pastor Daniel Reichel informed about the planned Freising town church at a parish meeting.

The priest did not hide his worries and also had to announce bad news.

No, the individual congregations will not become one, but they find each other, know and benefit from each other.” This is how cathedral canon Daniel Reichel explained the basic philosophy of the Freisinger Stadtkirche, with the construction and structuring of which he was entrusted by Cardinal Reinhard Marx.

One problem: In the near future, significantly fewer staff will be available for the eight parishes concerned - to be precise, there will only be two full-time positions for priests and two for pastoral staff for the city church.

But Reichel already has an idea

There are only four full-time employees for the Stadtkirche

What should have interested most on Sunday at the parish meeting of St. Korbinian in St. Georgs-Haus: How is the Freising town church actually going to continue?

City pastor Reichel was interviewed by St. Korbinian's parish youth leader, Martin Fuchs, who asked him about his biography, but also about his visions of a well-running city church.

How should the city church be implemented and what are the consequences for the individual parishes?

These burning questions brought many believers to the parish meeting in St. George's House.

"The respective church is home," Reichel explained in an introductory manner and went on: "It should stay that way!" Reichel doesn't think much of the idea of having to travel far around for church services - instead, the program of the respective parishes should "become broader and more complex “.

What worries him, of course: "We currently still have a lot of employees, but that will change soon."

(By the way: everything from the region is now also available in our regular Freising newsletter.)

Nevertheless, he also had bad news with him: "Father Marek is leaving us now, he is going back to his homeland." Nevertheless, Reichel firmly believes that even with only four full-time positions, a city church can be balanced - for example, through the, to put it bluntly, Extension of festivities.

Best example: Corpus Christi.

"We can celebrate on a Saturday before and a Saturday after, it doesn't have to be exactly on the one day," says Reichel's rough plan to be able to celebrate the festival in the various churches.

A lot has not yet been decided, some things still have to be thought about, but one thing is certain for him: "We need a very clear timetable and a blueprint for the few staff."

What is also certain for the pastor: There will be no center, but every church can celebrate.

"But we also have to deal with the times better," explained Reichel.

Example: Before the Sunday mass in Freising, he celebrated a service in Haindlfing, but in between he had an hour's idle time, which could have been used for another mass.

The pastor appeals to his faithful

What is fundamentally important to Reichel per se: “The church must be visible in society.” On the other hand, he has to “flee” from a church that only plans and administers.

His urgent wish to all Christians: "Give your church a face and a meaning for society, we can't do it alone."

What Reichel finally referred to was the campaign "The Stadtkirche Freising on trips".

Anyone interested can follow in the footsteps of Freising and visit Weißenkirchen in Austria and the Freisinger Hof winery.

Further stations: Heiligenkreuz, Vienna and Maria Zell.

The trip will take place from June 3rd to 7th.
