With his "Kaisermania" Roland Kaiser delighted the crowds on the banks of the Elbe.

To do this, however, the experienced hit star resorted to a tool that he should no longer need.

Dresden – A record-breaking 273,000 visitors flocked to the “Film Nights on the banks of the Elbe” in the summer of 2022 – a record!

The open-air festival, which has been taking place every year since 1991, is one of the most popular major events in the entire Federal Republic.

The undisputed highlight of the past year: Roland Kaiser's (70) legendary "Kaisermania" concerts, which will celebrate their 20th anniversary in 2023.

This is also celebrated on television - with pictures that reveal some of the secrets of the hit star...

The first shows the “Kaisermania” concert from 2022 – Roland Kaiser sings his way through a number of hits

Few artists have shaped hits in Germany like Roland Kaiser.

In order to honor the interpreter of "You To Love" and his work, the first on Saturday evening (March 18) showed the current "Kaisermania" edition - but it clearly flopped in terms of viewer ratings, especially in comparison with the sister station ZDF.

Nevertheless, there was a lot on offer for enthusiastic pop fans: Roland Kaiser sang a total of 29 songs at his performances on the banks of the Elbe, including mostly his own hits such as "Everything was you want", "Joana" or "Santa Maria", but also two cover versions ("Above the Clouds ' by Reinhard Mey and 'Midnight Lady' by Chris Norman).

However, the 70-year-old will no longer lack enough songs in this life: the native of Berlin released almost 30 studio albums between 1976 and 2022 - there are quite a few lyrics.

However, the native Berliner no longer wants to remember them word for word, it seems.

How long have teleprompters been around?

The teleprompter is an American invention and goes back to the engineers Hubert Schlafly and Irving B. Kahn.

They invented the device in the 1950s – and it was a complete success: to this day, the device is mainly used in show business.

The idea itself dates back to the early days of sound film: back then, people were already using labeled boards on which the dialogues were written, so-called “cue cards”.

Hit star dependent on teleprompter?

– TV pictures show Roland Kaiser reading from the monitor

Several shots of the "Kaisermania" concert show that Roland Kaiser is now apparently dependent on several teleprompters from which the pop star reads the lines of his hits live.

A corresponding monitor is mounted on both the left and right edge of the stage, as the television pictures clearly show.

Here and there it actually seems as if the 70-year-old's gaze wanders to the useful screens.

The advantage: The devices are usually positioned in such a way that the audience does not notice them - on the contrary: For fans on the edge of the stage it looks as if the emperor is looking straight into their eyes.

Only the camera recordings, in which the concert was partly filmed from the stage, reveal that the 70-year-old counts on technical support when in doubt.

Possibly one reason why the television broadcast had to take such heavy criticism: some viewers literally tore up Roland Kaiser's "Kaisermania".
