Five thousand people were present this evening (Tuesday) at a protest rally to mark the 35th anniversary of the lifting of the ban on male intercourse.
The rally was attended by artists including Ran Denker, Korin Alel and Neta Barzilai, who called on the government to protect the rights of the gay community, and came out against the legal revolution.
"I call on the leaders of Israel to pull themselves together and make sure that there will be democracy here," said Ran Denker.
On March 22, 1988, MK Shulamit Aloni and the Chairman of the Constitution Committee, Uriel Lin, repealed in the Knesset the ban on male sex and "wrong" female sex, allowing members of the gay community to come out of the closet in Israel.
Today, 35 years later, a rally was held to commemorate the event in Tel Aviv's Bima Square.
The rally was organized by the organizations of the gay community, moderated by Dalit Rochester and Nadav Bornstein, during which Shai Gabso, Shahar Tabuch and Maya Simentov also took part.

Ran Dankar opened the rally with a performance of his song "Equals" and began with a message to the country's leaders: "I call on you from here to reset yourselves and make sure in a responsible and unambiguous way that there will be democracy here. Don't answer us in general terms and try to smear us. Take care of it in a concrete and real way. Write a constitution that protects on minorities and protected by the government's whims. This is your responsibility."
The singer Neta Barzilai also added and said that "I don't catch any sign of gay pride, but it feels like it's my struggle as well as mine and you can't sit quietly", the singer added and said that "there is a feeling in Israel of a clogging of a sewer pipe.
