INTERVIEW – This Tuesday evening on France 2, the most famous doctor of the PAF co-hosts with Léa Salamé a special prime time devoted to our medical system.

This Tuesday, March 21, France 2 offers "Health in France: the state of emergency?", An evening event centered on the French health system, presented by Léa Salamé and Michel Cymes.

After the broadcast of a major documentary filmed throughout France, the unique duo will welcome health professionals on the set as well as François Braun, the Minister of Health.

Michel Cymes confides in this meeting.

  • TV Magazine poll: Audrey Fleurot and Olivier Marchal, your favorite French series heroes

TV MAGAZINE.

- Why is this prime time important?

Michael CYMES.

- The health situation in France is becoming quite dramatic.

We talked about medical deserts, then the emergency crisis in the hospital, the Covid or even nurses and, today, everything comes together.

So it's very explosive today.

There is a real tragedy when we see that thousands of French people have no attending physicians when people are affected by chronic illnesses.

It is a disaster in terms of public health.

How will the evening unfold?

We went to see in certain corners of France how it was going – badly – through a 90-minute documentary and, then, we will propose a debate with doctors, medical staff and François Braun, the Minister of Health.

We are going to make an inventory which is unworthy of a rich country like France.

And above all, we will try to see what the solutions are.

What strikes you the most in this documentary?

We are in one of the most famous countries in the world for its health care and for its medicine, but in the documentary, we discover the D systems in place which are maddening.

We thus see that doctors take a plane, specially chartered for them, to go from Dijon to Nevers and treat people.

We have the impression that we are in Africa and that we are leaving the capital to see the Bedouins in the middle of the desert.

It's still crazy!

As a doctor myself, I am appalled by what we see today in France, one of the richest countries in the world.

I am also marked by this couple of doctors from Mantes who practice medicine in the old fashioned way.

They're kind of the last of the Mohicans, soon there won't be any more doctors like them.

"Today, young people no longer want to sacrifice their lives for their profession"

Michael Cymes

For what ?

Today, and this is an observation in all professional sectors, young people no longer want to sacrifice their lives for their job.

It is an evolution of society, we must take it into account and find solutions.

Doctor is a fabulous job but young people also want to live and settle in a place where there are schools, a cinema… We have to take that into account, which we haven't done for decades.

The report of the documentary is really terrible.

Do you think there are real solutions?

We are going to deal with that on the set.

One of the essential points today is that the doctor does not have enough medical time to devote to his patient.

Everything that is administrative and can be done by someone other than the doctor must be developed.

We also need to increase teleconsultation… We have solutions.

Afterwards, this comes up against a lot - and here I do not necessarily agree with my colleagues - a form of corporatism which was partly at the origin of the numerus clausus (the limited number of students admitted to

second medical year

, Ed.).

We all have to find solutions together because there are some and it is not possible to continue like this.

There are also all the departures of nurses from the hospital.

It is certainly necessary to increase their salaries, but not only.

We have to give meaning to the job, show that it's a very beautiful job that can be fulfilling.

The explanations of Michel Cymes

You are co-presenting this evening for the first time with Léa Salamé…

I have already been invited to her shows, but this is the first time that I will be co-presenting a program with her.

I know her, we are friends so the idea of being together is very pleasant.

And then, above all, we are very complementary.

I don't know how to interview politicians and Léa is not a doctor.

Are you going to shoot other episodes of

Doc et le Véto

?

Two episodes will be broadcast soon and we are filming a third.

Otherwise, we also shot a number of “Take care of yourself”.

I continue my shows with Adriana Karembeu, we have one in the box and we are shooting another in May.
