Gerda Bretz died at the age of 80.

She sat on the city council for the CSU for 30 years and was involved with the Transylvanian Saxons.

Geretsried - For 30 years, Gerda Bretz was a constant of the CSU in the city council and an important pillar of the Transylvanian Saxons in the largest city in the district.

Joachim Herrmann, Minister of State for the Interior, for Sport and Integration, awarded her the Municipal Medal of Merit for her work.

She was no longer able to accept the award.

The woman from Geretsried died last week.

"The news of the death of our long-time companion Gerda Bretz has shaken us all," says Mayor Michael Müller.

She played a key role in the development of the city and was a committed and competent colleague and friend.

"We thank her from the bottom of our hearts and will always keep her honorable memory."

Gerda Bretz was born on January 5, 1943 in Grosslasseln (Herrmannstadt district).

She attended high school and became a financial accountant.

She moved to Bucharest with her husband Wilhelm, where their daughter Hannelore and son Robert were born.

In 1978 she moved to Geretsried, initially without a husband and daughter.

"They had to buy them out from the Romanian government," remembers Third Mayor Gerhard Meinl.

She dealt incredibly well with all the blows of fate she suffered in her life – even when she had to bury her son and later her husband.

"She was a strong woman," says Meinl.

City councilors and Transylvanian Saxons in Geretsried have fond memories of Gerda Bretz

In the musical family - the husband played the horn, the son the cello, the daughter plays the piano and is an opera répétiteur - Bretz took on the role of reason.

"Gerda was the great conductor of the world of the family," says Meinl.

Most recently, her grandson was her great treasure.

She remained loyal to Mucos Pharma in Unterhaching throughout her professional life.

She moved to the city council just a year after joining the Christian Socials.

There she usually sat quietly in her place, but the impression was deceptive.

"She didn't make the big speeches, but she knew exactly what she wanted." And she fought for that.

Meinl: "She stood for solidity."

The Transylvanian Saxon has never forgotten her homeland.

As treasurer of the district group for many years, she took part in the extensive program of events.

As a member of the guild, she supported the tradition of the Urzeln at carnival every year with a snack.

"She was very well known," says Ursula Meyndt, chairwoman of the Transylvanian Saxony district group.

Even on the city council, she always fully supported the Landsmannschaft.

"She was the connection between the district group and the city." SUSANNE WEIß

burial

Gerda Bretz will be buried on Friday, April 21, at 10 a.m. in the Geretsried forest cemetery.
