A 28-year-old woman was indicted and placed in pre-trial detention on Tuesday after admitting to having stabbed her partner to death on Sunday in Canala (eastern New Caledonia), the Nouméa prosecutor announced in a press release.
According to the first elements of the investigation, the couple was facing great difficulties.
The 38-year-old victim "
could be violent under the influence of alcohol
", according to the Nouméa public prosecutor.
Her companion was her, "
susceptible to attacks of acute jealousy
," said Yves Dupas.
Mortal Blow
The facts occurred at the end of a drunken family evening.
The young woman, who showed no signs of drunkenness, had taken the wheel to bring back her companion and three of his friends, all four heavily alcoholic.
But an argument broke out as she stopped to drop off one of the passengers, leading to the fatal blow, delivered with a knife that was in the vehicle's storage compartment.*

While in police custody, the alleged perpetrator indicated that she had no intention of killing her partner.
The autopsy confirmed that a single blow had been delivered to the chest, perforating the heart.
