Peter Lanzani: an actor without limits

2023-03-21T17:22:37.347Z

He stopped being a teen idol to become one of the cult actors of his generation. He walked the red carpets of prestigious film festivals. This week premieres the second season of The Kingdom.

PETER LANZANI

During a break from photo production, Peter Lanzani leans back on an armchair in the studio and takes a short nap.

After having competed in the Oscars for the film

Argentina, 1985

, a story based on a true event that also won a Golden Globe, he talks about his past, his present, his life in the neighborhood and what it is coming

At the age of 32, thanks to his career, he has already walked the red carpets of the Venice, Cannes and San Sebastián film festivals.

Any trace of divism?

Not a gesture: he is accessible and far from the hysteria caused by fame.

The son of an economist and a Master in Systems, the third of four siblings, Juan Pedro (as it appears on his ID) lives in Boedo with a friend, goes for a walk in the neighborhood as often as possible and avoids dependence on his cell phone. .

“I don't have that fanaticism that there is now for showing excessively on social networks.

I only look from time to time what my friends upload to find out what they're up to”, he maintains in relation to those who seek to find out more about him on Instagram or Twitter.

THIS WEEK THE KINGDOM LAUNCHES

It seems that Peter is going slowly, but without pause.

Perhaps that was his formula for transcending the image of a teen idol, by debuting in Chiquititas and Casi Ángeles, and positioning himself as one of the cult actors of his generation.

El Clan, El Angel, La Leona, Maradona, a blessed dream, A rooster for Esculapio and Equus (a work that he financed himself) are just some of his most outstanding works.

This week he is preparing to premiere the second season of the series El Reino, one of Netflix's national tanks, where he plays Tadeo Vázquez, a spiritual and believing person who bases his life on his neighbor.

In this six-episode installment, his character takes on a relevant role as he becomes a popular leader, whose battle for good is going viral throughout the country.

WITHOUT SPOILING, WHY IS TADEO GOING TO BE ON EVERYONE'S MOUTH?

Because he realizes that there is something much bigger than he intuited in that network of power that surrounds him, embodied by Emilio (Diego Peretti).

There is a reality that passes over him, and he is going to have to go through tests and break down obstacles to finish realizing who is who around him.

Faced with this cloudy panorama, Tadeo maintains his kind and pure essence, he pursues his ideals in a genuine way.

IN

ARGENTINA, 1985

YOU ALSO PERFORMED A CHARACTER WHO FIGHTS FOR A NOBLE REASON.

I like roles where the hero's path is built.

Those characters who have a hard time doing good and who fight for what they believe in.

I feel that in the film, we did a job with a lot of commitment.

One of the objectives was to speak to that generation that did not live that part of our history, so that they could get to know it in depth.

And those who lived through the dictatorship and what the Trial of the Juntas was, don't forget it.

PERSONALLY, WHAT CAUSES MOTIVATE YOU?

All human beings are in a constant search for what moves us.

Some discover it before, others after.

I am interested in everyday causes, talking to people, finding out how they are, what their problems are, how I can contribute my bit.

Face-to-face contact is nurturing.

In this virtual age, the talk is somewhat empathetic to me.

I will never stop worrying about what happens to the other, be it a friend, a stranger, people on the street or someone I pass by in the neighborhood.

DOES BEING FAMOUS CONDITION YOU WHEN YOU TALK TO SOMEONE YOU BARELY KNOW?

No, because I always kept a low profile professionally.

I have a cordial relationship with people.

Getting started in adolescent strips, in which a lot of fanaticism was generated around the characters, helped me handle all kinds of situations.

The worst thing that can happen to you is that maybe one day you get up crossed and you don't connect with someone who asks you for a photo, but no more than that.

DID IT HARD FOR YOU TO STOP CLASSIFYING YOU AS A TEEN IDOL?

It was a long process and a difficult road.

After working on adolescent strips, I felt the need to opt for characters that were a leap into the void, that had a narrative arc.

I was always a kamikaze in my career.

Sometimes it works out for me, other times not so much, but everything I face has to involve a search, a challenge and learning.

I am aware of how lucky I am to work on what I love, but I also break my back.

I look like those footballers who run and run because they want to win the game.

I need to feel that creative movement when I act.

BY THE WAY, HOW DID YOU EXPERIENCE THE WORLD CUP?

With excitement and euphoria.

I saw all the games.

I love Messi, I am a messista to the extreme.

I would love to have a barbecue with him, hug him, lift him up in the air like Patrick Swayze in Dirty Dancing.

All my life I dreamed of being world champion.

It was incredible what happened.

A PHOTO OF YOU WITH ANYA TAYLOR-JOY GOES VIRAL AT THE GOLDEN GLOBE AWARDS.

HOW WAS THIS ENCOUNTER?

We went for a walk around the living room with Florencia (Bas), Ricardo's (Darín) wife, and we ran into her through a corridor.

We went up to greet her and Flor took a picture of her for us.

That thing that we Argentines have that when we see another from our lands we get fed up.

She seemed divine, cool and genuine.

DID YOU MEET A TEENAGE CRUSH?

With Cate Blanchett.

After her, there is nothing left, neither beauty, nor talent, nor loveliness.

We chatted for a while and she was very warm.

YOU WERE ON MANY RED CARPETS, WHAT IS YOUR RELATIONSHIP WITH FASHION LIKE?

I confess that in my daily life, I am quite laid back and easy going.

I like to be comfortable and I wear what I paint.

But I learned that for these events I have to drop the "sloppiness" and dress according to the situation.

Not because I'm lazy, but because I'm simple.

Many times, they advise me and give me clothes, other times I choose what to wear.

Dressing well is part of the event.

If not, then the bad comments start because of how you look.

HOW DO YOU DEAL WITH THESE CRITICISMS?

Sometimes I overlook them, I try not to read them.

But others bother me a lot.

There are people who hide behind 140 characters to write derogatory things.

And if they don't do it on the networks, they probably rumor it to the next door.

They have even told me: "You look horrible, before you were cute" or "Look what you're wearing."

Once I went to China's (Suárez) house for my birthday and they destroyed me because of my appearance, to the point that my mother called me worried about all that bunch of comments.

BEING AN ACTOR, DO YOU FEEL THAT PRESSURE TO HAVE TO LOOK GOOD ALL THE TIME?

No. In fact, I should take care of myself a little more.

I would have to apply more creams or try treatments because I work with my image and my body.

I'll put the batteries.

I take care of myself, more than anything to feel healthy, not for aesthetic reasons.

I do a lot of sports and I like to go for a walk.

WHAT OTHER ACTIVITIES DO YOU DO OUTSIDE THE SET?

I have a normal life.

I was always very friendly.

I keep my school group and the club.

I meet them to eat, to have a beer, we go play paddle tennis, golf.

I also take the opportunity to watch movies and stay in bed late.

If I can travel, I do.

I try to make trips around the country, like San Pedro or San Antonio de Areco.

Whenever I go to Córdoba, I have an impressive trip.

I like getting on a plane alone and landing in faraway places.

Sleeping in a hostel, meeting people and moving on.

WITH SO MANY TRAVELS, IS IT COMPLICATED TO BE IN A COUPLE?

At this rate it is difficult, but not impossible.

YOU HAD TWO MEDIA ENGAGEMENTS WITH LALI ESPOSITO AND TINI STOESSEL, BUT YOU HAVE BEEN SINGLE FOR A LONG TIME.

WHAT IS YOUR IDEAL STATE?

I do not know yet.

I hit many sticks in love, never from anger, but from feeling that something did not prosper, it did not happen.

But I'm not closed to love someone, to build a relationship.

I am delivered to the love of a couple.

It's not happening to me today, but it's going to happen.

THE KAMIKAZE

IS IT HARD TO PLAN A FIRST DATE BEING AN ACTOR?

Sometimes it can play against you, but I don't have any issues with that either.

What does bother me is the media speculation when you're getting to know someone and you don't even know if it's going to work.

Some time ago I uploaded a photo to Instagram with a girl in New York and many asked me who she was.

Everyone was already speculating.

And she was my cousin!

For this reason, I learned to have my meeting places if I want no one to find out.

HAS POPULARITY HELPED YOU TO BE ADDRESSED A LOT?

It happened to me.

It usually makes me shy, but if it's a genuine and cool approach, it feeds me.

Maybe I don't know what to do in that situation.

Beyond that, it's not that I didn't suffer for love.

For me, love is like the sea, it gives you, it takes you away, it sucks you in, it explodes like a wave in your face.

It's something beautiful, where you go through different emotions.

AT

32, WHAT DO YOU SEE WHEN YOU LOOK BACK?

Lots of work and delivery.

I see a focus.

I always knew what I didn't want.

I embrace my past, because even from mistakes I learned.

My falls and miseries helped me to be who I am.

In the future, I want to stay focused and grounded.

WOULD YOU LIKE TO WORK ABROAD?

I wouldn't go try my luck anywhere.

I would never settle in Los Angeles to rent an apartment for the purpose of doing casting calls.

I would die of sadness.

I would only travel if they called me to audition.

But here I come working with very good directors and doing cool things.

Without going any further, in El Reino I share the set with a choral cast that I greatly admire.

And in Argentina, 1985, I had the luxury of working with Ricardo Darín and Santiago Mitre.

I am happy with my career.

And when I can't find a project or a script that interests me, I put together a play or write.

I shelter in my creative places.
