Jorge Sampaoli stopped being the coach of Sevilla
, after a weak season that left the Andalusian club fighting in the relegation places.
Today he was just two points away from the hottest positions in the table.
"Sevilla FC has terminated the contract with its coach, Jorge Sampaoli,
after the team's defeat in Getafe, which has once again placed the team on the brink of relegation," the club said in a statement.
Last weekend, those led by the Argentine fell 2-0 in Getafe for the 26th round of the League, in what was the third defeat in their last four games in the Spanish championship.
This accelerated the club's decision.
"The fact that the team has not managed to get out of the lowest positions in the table since his incorporation as coach and the image offered in the last matches of the team
have led the club to make this decision,"
Sevilla explained in a harsh release.
The club specifies that the objective of its decision is to seek "a reaction in the last twelve days that remain to finish the League" and that they are already working on closing "the hiring of a new coach".
According to the Spanish press
, the chosen one would be the coach José Luis Mendilibar
, who was the coach of teams like Eibar, Osasuna or Athletic Bilbao.
Sampaoli, who had a contract until 2024, had arrived last October to replace Julen Lopetegui, beginning a second spell at the helm of the Nervionense club.
His first step had been
for just under a year
, between July 2016 and May 2017, when he left the team to coach the Argentine team, replacing then coach Edgardo Bauza.
Although he qualified, the team never found a way back and fell in the round of 16 of the 2018 Russia World Cup against France.
Sampaoli landed in Seville with the mission of making a team soar, which at the time of his arrival
had only achieved 5 out of 21 possible points
in the League, weighed down by injuries and the departure of key players such as defenders in the summer Jules Koundé and Diego Carlos.

But five months later,
he leaves without being able to repeat the good results of his previous stage
when he left the Andalusian team in fourth place in the League and fell in the Champions League round of 16 with Leicester.
Sampaoli leaves the club after leading the team in
19 league games, of which they only won six,
drew five and lost eight, leaving the team in 14th position in the championship, just two points behind Valencia, which marks the zone of relegation to Second Division.
In Europe, Sevilla fell from the Champions League to the Europa League, where the Argentine has managed to get the team into the quarterfinals, but
now faces a difficult Manchester United,
who have already left Barcelona and Betis behind.
Winner of the Copa América as Chile coach in 2015 and former coach of Olympique de Marseille, Santos or Universidad de Chile, Sampaoli spent Monday waiting for a decision from the Sevilla club after Sunday's heavy defeat, local press reported.
According to the Spanish newspapers,
the negotiations regarding his compensation would have delayed the announcement
until this Tuesday.
