The image is spectacular.

It testifies to the violence of the flames.

These transformed the two cars of the mayor of the town of Saint-Brevin-les-Pins (Loire-Atlantique) into blackened carcasses.

The fire also spread to part of the residence of the city councilor.

A facade and at least one room of the house are affected.

"This morning, around 5 a.m., an arson attack was caused at my home, affecting our cars and our house

," says Yannick Morez.

Present in the house with his wife at the time of the events, he was woken up in time by passers-by who came to alert them to the danger: “

We would like to thank the people who rang our doorbell, alerting us, and without whom consequences could have been even more dramatic

.

The mayor, without political label, also addresses his thanks to the firefighters who came to put out the fire with two lances.

A “shocked” mayor

Saying he was

"shocked"

by what he considers to be a

"cowardly and inadmissible attack"

, Yannick Morez filed a complaint with the public prosecutor of Saint-Nazaire.

He now hopes that the

“perpetrators will be found and sentenced quickly”

.

For several months, the peaceful seaside resort of Saint-Brevin-les-Pins has been regularly talked about because of demonstrations by supporters or opponents of the move of a reception center for asylum seekers (Cada) to near a school.

In this context, Yannick Morez indicated last month that he had received threats from opponents of this project.

The president of the Association of Mayors of France in Loire-Atlantique (AMF 44), Maurice Perrion, moreover indicated to Le

that he was going

to "constitute a civil party in the procedure in order to individually and collectively defend the mayors of Loire-Atlantique

These serious violence, and threats, are intolerable and unbearable.

Their perpetrators must be identified and condemned

,” she posted on Twitter.

The new Democracy 44 movement, which brings together right-wing, center and non-label members, also reacted on social networks: “

Our Democracy does not deserve this.

Our 24 elected officials are outraged.

This criminal act against the mayor of Saint-Brévin is serious, very serious.

A collective awareness is essential before a drama unfolds before our eyes.
