Bimbo falls ill and dies while playing basketball at school

(ANSA) - AGRIGENTO, MARCH 22 - A 12-year-old boy died while playing basketball in the gymnasium of the "Guarino" school in via Capitano Basile, in Favara, in the province of Agrigento.

The little one was seized by a sudden illness and collapsed to the ground, losing consciousness.

Despite the intervention of two 118 ambulances and the doctors who tried to revive him, the child passed away.

The body was taken to the San Giovanni di Dio hospital in Agrigento.

The mayor, Antonio Palumbo, has already proclaimed the city mourning for the day of the funeral.


    An investigation has been opened into the matter.

The boy had said he had a headache and then passed out while playing basketball in the gymnasium of the "Guarino" school in via Capitano Basile.

The acting chief prosecutor, Salvatore Vella, and the prosecutor Giulia Sbocchia will acquire, through the carabinieri, the certificates of suitability for the child's competitive activity, which will be related to what will emerge from the autopsy exam.


    At the moment no offense has been set up.


   The Public Prosecutor's Office will await the acquisition of the first documents to be able to hypothesize any crimes.

The child's body is currently at the disposal of the judicial authorities at the San Giovanni di Dio hospital in Agrigento.
