Habeck's heating plans are causing trouble in the coalition.

Anton Hofreiter (Greens) reacts emotionally to Markus Lanz – and attacks SPD and FDP.

Hamburg – You can think of Anton Hofreiter (Greens) what you want.

Perhaps some are bothered by his long hair, others by the Bavarian dialect or his party affiliation.

But one thing should be clear: the biologist, who has a doctorate, is always an asset in discussions.

"Toni" delivers arguments and gets involved in discussions in a wonderfully authentic way.

There is no actor here, no tactician, but a politician who also likes to be theatrical in arguments.

At Markus Lanz: Anton Hofreiter railed against Lindner's FDP and defended Habeck's heating plans

Hofreiter is a person who seems to come from another time.

The older generations of political observers often rave about debates from days long past, when speeches in the Bundestag – according to the saga – were even more exciting than the feature films on television.

When verbally things were still flying.

Helmut Schmidt, Franz-Josef Strauss, Herbert Wehner.

It seems as if Hofreiter sat in the corner as a kid, listening and learning, only to pop up again decades later.

On Tuesday evening he showed his skills in Markus Lanz's ZDF talk.

Markus Lanz – These guests will be discussing on March 21 with:

  • Anton Hofreiter (Greens)

    - Chair of the EU Affairs Committee

  • Antje Höning

    – journalist (“Rheinische Post”)

  • Daniela Schwarzer

    – political scientist

  • Florian Flade

    – journalist (research cooperation from NDR, WDR and SZ)

Moderator Markus Lanz also makes no secret of the fact that he appreciates Anton Hofreiter.

If you watch carefully, you can also see that Lanz bites his lip and pulls the corners of his mouth up during many statements made by Bavarians.

It cannot be determined whether the appreciation is based on reciprocal love.

In any case, Hofreiter is stingy with obvious expressions of sympathy.

Not only towards Lanz, but in general.

And so it gives the impression that the annoyed original Bavarian is sitting there, always moaning about the ignorance of his fellow human beings.

Hofreiter bei Lanz: There is a certain panic in the FDP after the lost state elections

But first Hofreiter had to defend himself, Robert Habeck and the Greens.

Apparently, it is the intention of Minister of Economics Habeck that from 2024 almost every household should be heated with heat pumps.

The question of the costs has caused uncertainty among the population since this plan became known.

When Lanz speaks of a "heat pump gate" because of the leaking of this information to the public, Hofreiter rolls his eyes: "Heat pump gate is a bit exaggerated." Asked about the fact that Federal Finance Minister Christian Lindner (FDP) was skeptical about the plans Habecks, Hofreiter jumps out of his skin and says with defiant sarcasm: “With the FDP

there is a certain panic after the lost state elections and the bad polls.

I think there is hope that by clearly distancing ourselves from our climate policy, we can bring his voters back.

But I don't think that will work."

After Lanz kept digging, Hofreiter vented his anger: "I don't know why you keep trying to present this law in a completely different way than it has been known so far!

It was just punctured by someone, probably from the FDP or SPD, because the coalition is having some difficulties at the moment.”

Journalist Antje Höning on the Zoff about the heaters: "They make climate policy with a crowbar!"

But the journalist Antje Höning is also concerned about the plans from the Ministry of Economic Affairs.

“The service life of heat pumps is ten to 15 months.

That costs 30,000 to 40,000 euros.

With state subsidies we are at 25,000 euros.

Who has this to put a heater in?

There would have been other ways to move the building sector to climate protection.

They are completely on the wrong track and it would make much more sense to provide incentives.”

Höning talks himself into a rage and addresses a demand to the Green politician: "Do not make climate policy against, but with the population!

They should take the population with them and not overburden them financially with bans.

You are making climate policy with a crowbar!”

And Hofreiter, who is just reaching for his water glass, puts it down again and looks angrily at Höning: “There will be hardship rules and support.

That is an insolence and an unclean accusation!

The bill isn't even ready yet.

It is extremely upsetting that he was punctured.

When the bill is completed, people will not lose their homes.

In the end, it shouldn’t be more expensive for consumers than gas heating.”

Climate and Ukraine war at Lanz: Pretty best friends?

Putin, Jinping and the 40th time

But on Tuesday evening it was not just about the heat pump.

Political scientist Daniela Schwarzer revealed that the most recent meeting between Vladimir Putin and Xi Jinping in Moscow was at least the 40th meeting between the two.

They connect not only politics, but also a personal relationship.

"China has undoubtedly become an important source of supply for Russia," says Schwarzer.

The reporter Florian Flade turns his gaze to Japan and sees the land of the rising sun as a role model for Germany: "There they recognized years ago that one should not make oneself dependent and counteracted it."

In Germany, on the other hand, the attitude had been different for years: “In recent years, a lot has always been dismissed as paranoia.

But the warning from experts was: Don't make yourself dependent.

And we have made ourselves dependent on the energy sector in particular.”

This also applies to large companies such as BASF, IBM and VW, some of which are even expanding their connections to China.

Antje Höning is certain: "When the switch is flipped in China, the light goes out first in Wolfsburg."

Markus Lanz – The conclusion of the show:

For the interested viewer, the round at Lanz on Tuesday evening was a small highlight in the round of regular political talk shows.

Not only the emotion in the round, but also the salary was a real added value.

The fact that Hofreiter had a courageous opponent in Antje Höning did the discussion very well.
