The Starnberg police have presented the crime statistics for 2022.

The crimes are back to the pre-corona level.

And head of inspection Bernd Matuschek himself was targeted by scammers.

Starnberg/County – Last year, the Starnberg Police Inspectorate registered a total of 1952 criminal offenses in its area of responsibility (Starnberg, Tutzing, Berg, Pöcking, Feldafing).

After a corona dip, the number has almost reached the level of the pre-pandemic period again.

In 2019 there were 2048 crimes (the interim increase in 2020 was due to a single offender; a mail carrier had hoarded more than 700 items).

On Tuesday, inspection manager Bernd Matuschek, his deputy Frank Brosch, the new operations officer, Georg Buchmann, and the traffic officer, Oliver Jauch, presented the figures.

Four observations on this.

Life is safer in Starnberg than in Bavaria

Statistically speaking, there are more than five crimes per day at Lake Starnberg, but compared to the whole of Bavaria life is safer.

The so-called frequency number shows 37.8 cases per 1000 inhabitants for the area of the PI Starnberg, in relation to the Free State it is 47.0 cases per 1000 inhabitants.

The police headquarters in Oberbayern Nord, to which the district belongs, reports 37.6 cases per 1,000 inhabitants.

The development of some offenses compared to the last year before Corona, 2019, is astounding. With 60 cases of dangerous and serious physical injury, exactly as many cases were reported in the past year as there were then.

Brosch attributed the fact that the simple assault with 156 cases is still 42 below the value of 2019 to the fact that some events from previous years had not yet taken place last year, such as some city festivals.

In many other areas, too, the pre-corona level has almost been reached again, for example for theft in general with 453 cases (down 20), fraud with 244 cases (down ten), damage to property (down 20) or drug offenses (down 16).

Shoplifting is even significantly higher with 102 cases (plus 41 compared to 2019).

The number of burglaries is still comparatively low at 15 (minus seven), although this may have statistical reasons.

Overall, it was to be expected "that nothing would noticeably decrease permanently or shift to other crime areas," said Matuschek.

Fraudsters bite the boss on granite

Matuschek could not say how many grandchildren's tricks and shock calls are in the statistics - but he could say that he himself received a fraudulent message on his cell phone two to three months ago.

It was about the scam that the son or daughter supposedly had a new cell phone number and that you should please get in touch.

Matuschek saved the sender number under "Fraudster" in his mobile phone and apparently entered into a conversation.

After some time he was asked to transfer 1772 euros to an account at a Hamburg bank.

Of course it didn't go that far, but Matuschek knows that on the same day, with the same number and the same scam, a citizen was ripped off somewhere else in Germany and transferred a five-digit amount.

A child was very worrying

The clearance rate was 65.1 percent (2019: 62.5 percent).

In total, the officials identified 1090 suspects (plus five compared to 2019).

While the number of young people, adolescents and adults has remained about the same, it has increased significantly among children up to 14 years of age from 20 to 37 suspects.

The reason is quickly explained: "We had a special child," said Buchmann.

It was responsible for both bodily harm and property crimes, but has now moved to the north of Munich.

It will be checked whether it is a juvenile intensive offender.

Of all the suspects identified, 63 percent were German and 37 percent foreigners.

No reason to worry in Feldafing

Most of the crimes occurred in Starnberg (1101 cases), simply because of the size of the crime.

The increase in Feldafing from 78 criminal offenses in 2019 to 113 now is particularly striking. However, Matuschek saw no reason for concern.

A significant part of the increase is due to 15 damage to vehicles that occurred in April and July/August on Traubinger Strasse, Bahnhofstrasse and Seestrasse.
