The economists are now expecting a mini-plus for 2023.

The experts see the greatest risk for the economic recovery in Germany in the sustained high rate of inflation.

Munich – According to economic experts, the German economy is facing a very slow recovery in the current year.

According to the spring report of the German Council of Economic Experts (SVR), economic output will increase by 0.2 percent this year.

In the autumn, the economists had still assumed a minus of 0.2 percent and thus a relapse into recession.

For 2024, the experts expect an increase of 1.3 percent.

Although the situation has improved slightly compared to autumn, it remains tense.

Above all, the high inflation is "continued to be a major burden for the economy".

On average for the year, the committee is anticipating an inflation rate of 6.6 percent after 6.9 percent in the previous year.

Despite the current banking crisis, the committee currently considers the stability of the financial markets to be “not at risk”.

More to come.
