Economy on Habeck's heating plans: "Can become a crucial component for the failure of climate protection"

The criticism of the planned ban on oil and gas heating does not stop.

Economics Veronika Grimm thinks little of the plans of the traffic light coalition.

They could even harm the climate, she says.

Berlin – Economic wise man Veronika Grimm is again railing against the planned ban on oil and gas heating.

In the

Handelsblatt

she said that the plans do not provide more but less climate protection and jeopardize the public's acceptance of climate protection measures.

"We can already see that countless households want to quickly install a new gas heating system," says Grimm.

Grimm is against bans - and instead calls for more emissions trading

Grimm had already expressed her displeasure with the plans of the economics and construction ministries two weeks ago.

"The government could shoot itself in the foot with such bans," she told the

Süddeutsche Zeitung

at the time .

In the

Handelsblatt

, she underscores this opinion and claims that these bans would contribute little to sustainable climate protection.

Without good alternatives, bans are harmful.

"That can easily become the decisive building block for the failure of climate protection."

The counter-suggestion of the economists is therefore: more emissions trading in order to set the right incentives.

In their view, emissions trading could take effect in the heating and transport sectors as early as 2024.

"It would be clear that the prices of fossil fuels would increase, and there would be a great incentive to replace old heating systems," says Grimm.

The income from emissions trading should then be paid out to the citizens as climate money, so that households with lower incomes do not suffer from the rising energy prices, adds the economy.

"Bureaucratic monster": Financial support would overburden the state

Veronika Grimm is also very critical of the Economics Minister's commitments to financially support the exchange of heating systems.

“By doing so, he creates a bureaucratic monster.

There will have to be a lot of exception rules.

People submit applications, they all have to be checked," she told

Handelsblatt

.

Criticism of Robert Habeck's (Greens) project came again on Wednesday from the coalition.

Habeck's promise that small and medium incomes will pay for a heat pump just as much as for gas heating irritates the FDP.

FDP parliamentary group leader Christian Dürr said to the

: "I lack the imagination as to how this should be financed." Skeptical voices are also increasing from the SPD, especially the question of the specialists who are to install the new heating systems, which worries them social democrats.

The coalition committee meets at the weekend.

Then it will probably also go to the heating law.
