For nearly 10 years, the football simulation Fifa has been the best-selling video game in France every year.
2022 confirms this rule, but the passion of the French for the saga of EA Sports is still ramping up.
According to data from the Syndicate of Leisure Software Publishers (SELL),
Fifa 23
sold 1.75 million copies last year.
For comparison,
Fifa 22
had sold 1.6 million copies in 2021,
Fifa 21
had reached 1.3 million sales in 2020, and
Fifa 20
had posted 1.2 million sales in 2019.
The game of soccer is racing far ahead in the rankings.
Second place goes to
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2
(Activision), which reached one million sales, including 217,000 on PC.
This opus erases the poor performance of
Call of Duty Vanguard
, which had attracted less than 500,000 French people in 2021.
The third place on the podium goes to
Pokémon Violet
and
Pokémon Scarlet
, with 717,000 cumulative sales (excluding digital format, on which Nintendo refuses to communicate).
Here again, the performance is higher than that achieved in 2021 by
Pokémon Sparkling Diamond
and
Pokémon Sparkling Pearl,
which had come close to 600,000 copies.
And the "Poké-mania" continues in fourth place with 590,000 sales for
Pokémon Arceus
, released in January 2022.
The Elden Ring Surprise
The Fifa-Call of Duty-Pokémon trio has been monopolizing the top of video game sales in France for years.
You have to go a little lower in the ranking to detect surprises.
Thus,
Elden Ring
(Bandai Namco), critically acclaimed at the start of 2022, sold 408,000 copies, including 105,000 on PC.
A tour de force for such a demanding title, and which moreover comes from a brand new license.
On consoles, Elden Ring is almost on par with three Sony blockbusters:
God of War Ragnarok
(368,000 sales),
Horizon Forbidden West
(354,000) and
Gran Turismo 7
(353,000).

Finally, the ranking once again demonstrates the power of Nintendo licensing.
Although released in 2017,
Mario Kart 8 Deluxe
posted 451,000 additional sales in 2022 (excluding digital).
Just behind, the success of
Nintendo Switch Sports (432,000) recalls that of
Wii Sports
in the early 2000s
.
The first quarter of 2023 is dominated by Hogwarts Legacy (Warner), derived from the Harry Potter universe - the Sell does not communicate on its exact sales figures.
The rest of the year promises to be rich in new features, with
Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom
(Nintendo),
Diablo 4
(Blizzard),
Final Fantasy XVI
(Square-Enix) or
Assassin's Creed Mirage
(Ubisoft).
