They are detectable in pans, clothing, fast food packaging and even our drinking water: we are talking about PFAS and that stands for per- and polyfluorinated chemicals.
According to the latest estimates, this group of substances includes more than 10,000 different, highly toxic substances.
PFAS have no natural origin, the chemicals have been manufactured since the late 1940's.
The video explains:
What are PFAS
What are the properties of PFAS
What is the significance of PFAS for industry
What are the problems with PFAS
What effects do PFAS have on the human organism
Why are PFAS also known as the eternal chemical
Which places in Germany have particularly high PFAS values
Where are the substances used?
Why industry bans resist PFAS regulation
Stop worrying about non-stick pans that are harmful to your health and buy pans that are PFAS-free.
How do you recognize products without PFAS?
Disclaimers such as "PFOA/PFOS-free" or "GenX-free" are mostly indicators that the advertised products do not contain only two specific individual substances out of more than 10,000 PFAS.
Advertising claims such as "PFAS-free", "PFC-free", "fluorine-free" usually cover the entire substance group and the product actually has no PFAS.
Did you know?
“The use of PFOS has been largely banned since 2006 and that of PFOA since July 2020.
Restrictions or bans on the production and use of other PFAS are currently being worked out at European level.”
