Share buybacks: what is this practice that is on the rise in CAC 40 companies?

DECRYPTION - The Head of State intends to "ask the government to work on an exceptional contribution" so that companies which buy back their shares pay more to their employees.


The presidential statement comes as share buybacks are on the rise in France.

Alongside the dividend, more and more companies are opting for this method of remunerating shareholders.

By buying back their own shares and then canceling them, companies reduce the number of shares in circulation, which has the effect of increasing their earnings per share and, in turn, the market price of the remaining shares.

The practice is also much more flexible and maneuverable than the dividend.
