A number of academic institutions have announced that they will take part tomorrow (Thursday) in the "National Paralysis Day" against the legal revolution.

In some colleges there will be no classes at all, and in universities they called to allow students and lecturers to be absent.

The measures sparked a dispute between the national student union, which criticized the institutions, and the student protest, which accused it of "political considerations".

Among the institutions that will suspend classes tomorrow are Ben Gurion University, Haifa University, the Open University, Beit Berel Academic College, the Technion - where they will suspend classes for three hours, Emek Jezreel Academic College - which will stop classes for two hours, Bezalel, the Faculty of Design and Art in Shenkar, Rupin, the Academic Center for Law and Business and more.

At Tel Aviv University they decided not to shut down studies, but the Faculty of Humanities called on the lecturers to show understanding and act according to the dictates of their conscience.

The National Student Union criticized the shutdown of the campuses and sent a sharp letter to the Legislative Assembly and Minister of Education Yoav Kish in order to prevent the move. According to them, it is a unilateral decision by the faculty - without the consent or participation of the students. "The shutdown of a limited number of academic institutions constitutes a violation Blatant and politicized in the dual relations between the hundreds of thousands of students in Israel and the educational institutions," their announcement reads. "A strike of this type has one and only effect, and that is harming the students whose studies are delayed, damaged and who continue to pay for a service they do not receive." At the same time, Education Minister Yoav Kish left

today against the heads of the universities and colleges at the meeting of the Council for Higher Education. "I am sorry that there are heads of institutions who insist on getting involved and unilaterally inserting their political position into the academy, thereby harming the institutions they lead and the academy as a whole," he said. "I believe in academic freedom as a necessary engine for the success of higher education in Israel." .

The Council for Higher Education clarified in response that the institutions must ensure that there is no harm to faculty and students, and on the other hand emphasized that "the right to freedom of expression and the importance of voicing positions and holding public discourse must not be harmed."

The student protest also responded to the letter that was sent and said that it was a protest that came from the field - led by thousands of students from all over the country.

"The current student union is a deplorable body that abandoned its role and abandoned the student body and the future of Israeli society in favor of political dealings and other irrelevant pursuits," it said.

"The chairman of the association talks about dialogue and unity - while in his house in the student association he never brought the issue of reform to a discussion and decision.

From a democratic and transparent organization, the association has become the so-called private organization of the chairman, who acts alone on his own accord, therefore the 'position of the association' does not represent anything but him alone."

Tomorrow, many streets will be blocked in the Tel Aviv area following a protest against the legal revolution, and as a result heavy traffic congestion is expected.

From the early hours of the morning there will be marches, convoys and extensive disruptions throughout the country.

During the "Paralysis Day" there will also be a number of events under the title "#2024", the purpose of which is to illustrate to the public what Israel will look like after the approval of the legal revolution.

The revolution planned by the government includes a series of significant changes in the legal system, such as a determination that only an expanded composition of the High Court of Justice can invalidate legislation passed by the Knesset. Another step of the revolution, designed to strengthen the government's hand vis-à-vis the court, is the establishment of a superseding clause that will nullify decisions of the High Court by a majority of only 61 members of the Knesset, as well as changing the composition of the committee for the selection of judges so that it is fully controlled by the coalition.

The reform also deals with weakening the power of the legal advisors to the government, so that their position will not bind the government, and with eliminating the reason for reasonableness, which, among other things, significantly limits the court's ability to intervene in the appointment of senior officials.
