Against the background of the expansion of the protest against the legal revolution within the IDF, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu met today (Wednesday) with Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi in the Knesset.

According to sources briefed on the content of the meeting, it dealt with current security issues, but during it the chief of staff also raised the growing concern over the calls for refusal and the expanding scope of protest in the IDF against the legal legislation promoted by the government.

Halevi also warned of the worsening of the crisis in the reserves if the legislation is approved.

The Prime Minister's Office said that this was a routine working meeting between the Prime Minister and the Chief of Staff. The IDF spokeswoman stated that "we will not address what was said in closed conversations with the political echelon."

"Worried about the calls for refusal".

The revolution planned by the government includes a series of significant changes in the legal system, such as a determination that only an expanded composition of the High Court of Justice can invalidate legislation passed by the Knesset. Another step of the revolution, designed to strengthen the government's hand vis-à-vis the court, is the establishment of a superseding clause that will nullify decisions of the High Court by a majority of only 61 members of the Knesset, as well as changing the composition of the committee for the selection of judges so that it is fully controlled by the coalition.

The reform also deals with weakening the power of the legal advisers to the government, so that their position will not bind the government, and with the elimination of the reason for reasonableness, which, among other things, significantly limits the court's ability to intervene in the appointment of senior officials.
