The Greens want to reform German naming rights and allow new combinations.

A good idea for Rudolf Maier-Kleeblatt, conductor and artistic director of the Freies Landestheater Bayern, as he explains in the interview.

Miesbach - He's known, and maybe that's why his name rolls so smoothly.

Rudolf Maier-Kleeblatt is known as a former school teacher and artist and director of the Freies Landestheater Bayern (FLTB).

With his double name, the Miesbacher is almost predestined for an assessment of the Greens' plans to relax naming rights.

A conversation with unexpected insights.

Mr. Maier-Kleeblatt, it's about naming rights that the Greens want to reform.

Ah, the damn naming rights.

Strict rules

How come?

Because I have three names: Maier-Kleeblatt-Neuhäusler.

My stage name is Maier-Kleeblatt, but I would have preferred Kleeblatt-Neuhäusler or just Neuhäusler.

But that didn't work.

You have to explain that.

My birth name is Maier.

With my first marriage, it became Maier-Kleeblatt.

After my divorce I got married again.

"I wanted to part with Maier"

Namely Elisabeth Neuhäusler, Disability Officer of the city of Miesbach and opera singer at the FLTB.

Yes.

I actually wanted to break up with Maier at the time, but that wasn't allowed.

But what was possible was a third name, which is no longer possible today.

Since then my name has been Maier-Kleeblatt-Neuhäusler, and that's what it says on my ID card.

I am known as Maier-Kleeblatt.

"In Brazil my name is Neuhäusler"

That's really quite long.

The surname has 24 letters in total, with Rudolf it is 30.

Yes, this length has also caused real problems.

When we went to Brazil for two years in 1995/96, the program at the authorities had to be changed because my name didn't fit the mask.

But that's my name, and it was important to me back then.

Why did you want to part with Maier?

I've had enough of Maier.

Maier, heron, vulture – I often had to listen to that at school.

But first and foremost I care about my children.

I have two from my first marriage and two from my second.

And I think the parents should have the same names as the children.

On the other hand, I had already been on the road for ten years as Maier-Kleeblatt and was known by that name.

Except in Brazil.

They know me there as Neuhäusler.

"This name is a conversation opener!"

Do you often have to spell your name?

Yes.

With Maier it is the spelling.

With Kleeblatt, the question arises as to how I got this name.

And then how to spell Neuhäusler: ä or e?

This name is a conversation opener!

A naming law amendment would be interesting for you, wouldn't it?

That has to happen first - you don't have to do anything beforehand.

But maybe I'll change it to Neuhäusler after all when I'm not that active anymore.

Also a question: What name should be on my tombstone?

But culture award winner Maier-Kleeblatt?

I don't have a final opinion on this yet.

But a change is likely.
