After Iran: "Saudi Arabia will also renew its ties with Syria" - voila! news

Three sources familiar with the matter said that Riyadh and Damascus will reopen the embassies after the month of Ramadan, after a disconnection of more than a decade following the war in the beginning of which the Saudis supported the rebels. This follows the reconciliation between the kingdom and Tehran, Assad's ally, and the return of Syria to the Arab world

Syria and Saudi Arabia have agreed to reopen their embassies after severing diplomatic ties more than a decade ago - so said three sources familiar with the matter, in a move that will mark a leap forward in Damascus' return to the fold of the Arab world.

The talks between Riyadh and Damascus gained momentum following the agreement to renew ties between Saudi Arabia and Iran, a key ally of President Bashar al-Assad, said a regional source associated with Damascus.

Another regional source associated with the regime said that the two governments "plan to reopen the embassies after Eid al-Fitr", beginning at the end of the month of Ramadan that began today.

According to one of the regional officials and a diplomat in the Gulf, the decision is the result of talks held in Saudi Arabia with a senior Syrian intelligence official.

Riyadh and Damascus have not yet responded to the report.
