The whole troop was welcomed with good grace by the mayor, Yves Juhel, on the sole condition that the lions, tigers and other hippopotamus are not represented.

However, from the Premiere last Friday, the big cats appeared under the red and yellow marquee, immediately triggering the wrath of defenders of the animal cause.

Sitting in multicolored water tubs, two activists protested against the conditions of detention of the hippopotamus of the Zavatta circus, Jumbo.

"

If you go to the circus today, you will be able to see Jumbo, a 3-tonne hippopotamus who has lived for 35 years in a metal dumpster

", denounced the two men, while a queue of about fifty people were forming at the entrance to the marquee.
