A man wearing a Devil mask, armed with a gun and using flashlights in his hands, was stopped by a nightclub bouncer in Tampa, Florida, as he was about to enter the venue.

In the early hours of Sunday, the security employee of the Mans Venus club detected that a man dressed in red was trying to enter the center with a gun in his hand.

In the videos of the establishment's camera, the two subjects are seen struggling to hold the weapon, until the shooter is finally shot down with the help of two other private surveillance elements.

Michael Rudman, 44, was arrested at the scene.

On his arms were written the words "kill" and "the dark".

The suspect had visited the premises the night before and in his car he had chargers, ammunition and knives.

Authorities believe Rudman's intent was to carry out a massacre, though his motivations are unknown.

“There is no question that the security guards who disarmed this suspect saved dozens of lives through his heroics,” said Tampa Police Chief Lee Bercar.
