He had already said it when he brought investigators to find Saman's body in mid-November and reiterated it on March 10, when, at his request, he was interrogated by prosecutors and the carabinieri.
Danish Hasnain, the uncle of the 18-year-old Pakistani woman, claims that he was not the one who killed her girlfriend: on the night between April 30 and May 1, 2021, he limited himself to accompanying her two cousins to bury her.
The 32-year-old is on trial before the Court of Assizes of Reggio together with his cousins Ikram Ijaz and Nomanhulaq Nomanhulaq, the father of the young woman, Shabbar Abbas, currently under arrest in Islamabad and her mother Nazia Shaheen, the only one still wanted.
In the interrogation, assisted by the defender, the lawyer Liborio Cataliotti, further specified the version of the events of that night, claiming that his relatives wanted to assassinate him too.
"I think they called me because they wanted to kill me because of my good relationship with Saman, I agreed about his relationship with Saqib. Then I don't know why they didn't kill me," he said.
Saqib is the 18-year-old's boyfriend, who from what has emerged so far from the investigation would have been threatened by his father Shabbar and far from pleasing to the family.
In fact, Saman had been betrothed to a cousin back home, but she didn't want to and also for this reason, according to her accusation, she would have been punished with death.
Killed, perhaps strangled, and then buried in a cottage a few hundred meters from the house where the family lived and where she was found only a year and a half later, thanks to Danish's contribution.
"Come to think of it, the hole was too big for one person and the others framed me because they knew I was talking," she put on the record.
The uncle added a few more details than what he said when the inspection took place on 18 November.
The two cousins woke him up "and told me that there had been a quarrel and that the dead man had escaped".
Arrived in front of the house, "I saw Saman dead, lying down with her neck strange, tight. I started screaming loudly, cursing everyone, crying and I lost consciousness. When I woke up, the two held me up and given some water".
According to Danish "the two took her, one by the legs and one by the arms".
Then "they put the body down in front of the cottage, where I had already shown you and they went to get the shovels near the greenhouses. They asked me for a hand, but I didn't feel like it, I only moved the earth beside the hole.
It is still too early to understand if the new statements will be considered credible and if there will be a change in the charges for the person who up to now has been considered the perpetrator of the crime.
However, a defensive strategy clearly emerges that differentiates him from Saman's two cousins, who shared work in the fields with him, fled with him abroad a few days after the girl's death and would always spend time together with him night of the murder.
