The opposition to Economics Minister Robert Habeck's plans to ban oil and gas heating is growing louder.

Not only the FDP doubts - the SPD is also against many points.

Berlin – Ministers in the cabinet are still discussing plans to ban oil and gas heating.

The draft law from the Economics and Building Ministries envisages stopping the installation of new oil and gas heating systems from 2024.

By 2045, all fossil fuel heaters should be replaced, so the idea.

Ever since the draft became known, there has been a lot of criticism, with the question of its implementation in particular causing frowns.

And even within the coalition, there is growing resistance.

Heating ban would cost billions – who should pay for that?

One of the central problems that critics currently see in the draft is the question of funding.

Not only do millions of households have to replace their heating systems, they also have to make energy-saving improvements to their residential buildings.

In older buildings, it can quickly add up to six-digit amounts.

Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) had announced financial support, especially for poorer households.

But it cannot be offered to everyone.

Many people would probably feel compelled to take out loans.

In a recent report, the

quotes several SPD politicians who question the financing in particular.

And the FDP has long been demanding some key changes to the law.

"Those who cannot afford it must be given more time to replace the heating system," says FDP expert Daniel Föst.

Lack of skilled workers and lack of components for so many heat pumps

The second criticism that is heard again and again concerns the craftsmen themselves.

"Who's going to pay for that?

And where should you get the craftsmen from?” asks Florian von Brunn, state chairman of the SPD in Bavaria.

The order books of the heating installers are already full, they can hardly keep up.

And there is a lack of trainees, as in all craft businesses.

The SPD sees the shortage of skilled workers as a major obstacle - just like the lack of heat pumps.

According to the

, both the FDP and the SPD are now in favor of the ban only being passed for oil heating.

Gas heaters would then be able to continue running for the time being.

It would be conceivable that owners would have to ensure that their gas heating systems are increasingly only operated with eco-gas.

Whether this is a compromise with which the Greens agree was not yet foreseeable.

Like the newspaper

reported on Tuesday, there should be a crisis meeting on the subject of heat transition on Wednesday.

State secretaries from the economics, construction and finance ministries are to be present.

If there is no agreement, Chancellor Olaf Scholz (SPD) will face a strenuous meeting at the coalition summit next Sunday, at which the law is supposed to be passed.
