Mercedes GLC 300de, diesel and Crit'Air 1

TEST - Nearly 850 km of autonomy including 100 in electric, ridiculous CO2 emissions: the latest plug-in hybrid compact SUV from the firm with the star cultivates its singularity.

Plug-in hybrid technology is no longer popular.

The overweight generated by the large battery and the associated system is paid for by high consumption on motorway routes.

This disadvantage loses its acuity if the rechargeable battery is associated with diesel mechanics.

Mercedes is the only manufacturer to offer this marriage.

It works wonders under the hood of the latest generation of the GLC with its always balanced silhouette: the sobriety of diesel is combined with the range of action of a large capacity battery (31.2 kWh).

This is how the range comes out at nearly 850 km, including around 100 in electric mode.

Result: according to the approval protocol, consumption comes out at 0.4 l/100 km, i.e. CO2 emissions of only 10 g/km which are worth combining the tax advantages and being eligible for the Crit'Air sticker 1. If you take the trouble to recharge the batteries regularly - the charger accepts direct current up to 60 kW - you take full advantage of the technology by displaying really low consumption averages.

And with a cumulative power of 333 hp, the performance is similar to that of a 6-cylinder, without the nobility of sound.

On board this family vehicle, the “wow” effect is guaranteed with the large multimedia tablet located on the center console, even if some elements denote by their plastic appearance.

The soundproofing is so neat that it is hard to believe that it runs on diesel.

It adds a sovereign comfort due to the presence of standard air suspension and remarkable agility, provided you choose the optional four-wheel steering.

To review: the variations in consistency of the brake pedal which affect the dosage more than the efficiency.
