Independence, a lifeline for the right?
The idea of a government contract with Emmanuel Macron is not in the majority among Les Républicains.
Officially, the party and its tenors defend the maintenance of their autonomy as a guarantee of a political space which they refuse to see reduced to a “
deadly
” duality leaving macronism alone against the radical parties.
Gérard Larcher, president of Les Républicains du Sénat, reiterated this clearly this week, recalling his personal attachment to an independent line and stressing the existence of "
deep differences
" with Emmanuel Macron.
