As a child she sang in the Rudolf Lamy Children's Choir.

Olching - As a member of the Harmonie Olching singing club, she has appeared on stage countless times - and in such exposed places as the balcony of Munich City Hall.

Singing and her Christian faith helped Gerda (actually Gertrud) Meyerle, who was born in Simbach an der Isar in 1938, through a life that was not always pleasant.

Her parents separated when she was a toddler.

With her mother's second marriage, she had a stepfather and soon two half-brothers, whom she had to support.

There was often only time for homework at night.

In her mother's eyes, school was not important for a girl.

With the support of her stepfather, the then 14-year-old managed to get her to do an apprenticeship as an industrial clerk.

In 1966 she married her husband Adolf and in 1971 their only child was born.

Daughter Birgit was Gerda Meyerle's happiness.

She always made time for them – despite a job, English and computer courses at the adult education center and a household that was always kept in tip-top shape.

At times, the power woman had three jobs at the same time.

She worked as a clerk at Siemens and on her day off as a parish secretary in Munich-Forstenried.

Not that her husband earned badly.

But it was important to Gerda Meyerle to be able to stand on her own two feet financially if necessary.

In 1992, the couple, who had started with nothing, moved into their hard-earned home in Olching.

She also worked as a fundraiser for Caritas and later as treasurer for the Harmonie singing club.

The enthusiastic driver loved to cook for relatives and friends and often filled the freezer of her daughter and her extended family with home-made delicacies.

In retirement, the grandmother of three took part in two dance groups for the elderly in Olching, enjoyed reading the daily newspaper and solved crossword puzzles to keep her mind fit.

But a serious intestinal operation in 2010 put an end to active life.

In recent years she has hardly left the house and was very grateful for the care of her daughter, who even moved in with her at the end of 2020.

Gerda Meyerle was 84 years old.
